On my way to nec sunday 7th I got onto m40 and about half way there I was met with a white volvo v70 on a 52 plate. HMMMMM I thought looks dodgy so I stuck behind it upto speeds quite a bit over the limit then he slowed down so I just over took him and noticed a sign on the petrol cap saying ''petrol only'' that made me think more so I over took him anyway and just slowed to a reasonble speed then he shot past me again so I thought bugger it if hes old bill he can't do me I'm following him. so I told my passenger I think hes old bill my mate aggreed with me. So we played catch up for quite a while then I thought bugger it I'm pulling into services so I stuck my left winker on looked in my mirror and sure enough the car was also indicating. 'OH SHIT' I thought so I pulled into services got off bike had a few words with my mate and 2 people got out of the car and came straight over to me Shocked the driver of the car said '' hello im from bikesafe'' and showed me his warrant card Then I crapped myself but he just said you was in a bit of a hurry I was going to pull you but you looked quite safe considering the weather (wet and windy) blah blah blah just keep the speed down a bit and come and see me at the stand in nec. ok I said and we went into services had some breakfast and left for nec. I still cant beleive my luck I could of quite easily lost my licence for the speeds I was doing Confused funny enough I kept below 90mph the rest of the way

The bikesafe lot are mostly serving traffic Police and could probably do you for speeding, but they would rather educate people to ride sensibly within their own capabilities.

As one plod round our way said 'I could do people for minor infringements, but I'd rather concentrate on educating those who ride like tw4ts.'

Did you go to see him at the NEC? The Bikesafe courses are well worth doing.

They're not a bad bunch, but they still have targets to reach, his little chat with you at the services will probably be marked down as an 'educational chat'. Another local copper was over the moon when he found 20 of us parked up for a fag break on a ride out. He had a bit of general chat about bikes and then told us not to ride like idiots. Hey Presto, he has delivered 20 'educational chats' all in the space of time it took him to drink his tea from the tea wagon. Very Happy

A lot of them are bikers too when they are not in uniform.

Sounds like you were very lucky or he was a vey decent Cop Very Happy

Quick thinking to notice the "petrol only" markings.

I did a big overtake yesterday, exiting a roundabout, passed about 4 or 5 cars, before I pulled back to my side of the road at speed limit + 'X', then slowed to a sensible speed, before I knew it I had a Volvo, closing on me quite quickly, I thought, "bet thats old Bill", I was watching for the lights in the grill, but nothing, so I continued, on my way, doing several other overtakes but keeping the speed sensible, and after a while he either ceased or was unable to follow me, even when I got to the dual cariageway section I kept my speed down to the limit, so he had a chance to catch up with me, in case he "wanted a word", but I never saw him again.

What is the significance of petrol only? Surely most communal vehicles have the idiot proofing by the tanks?

I tend to look for high vis'es. And being parked up.

Its just out of the ordinary there was no high vis'es but if I spot something like that then its either a hire car which was unlikey as it was to clean and had 2 people sat in it with quite a bit of stuff in boot or its an unmarked pig sorry I mean police car which it was
