Yesterday on my return journey from college i was minding my own business filtering along when somebody cut me up!! i slowed down and continued! Karma

We were heading towards a roundabout with traffic lights! You know the ones, lane indications on the floor! Rolling Eyes

Anyway, i follow the same guy around the outside of traffic! He then indicated left!(only doing 20mph!) And rather than turn left stamped on his brakes(to apparently stop for the yellow cross hatching). Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad

Shocked I then slammed my brakes on, greatest stoppy of my life nose fairing barely missed his car!! Mr. Green

Then he looked in his mirrors and crept forward. I had a fire engine(truck) behind me(no lights flashing) but luckily he stopped!

After tapping on his window calling him every name under the sun he proceeded to cut up 3 cars and head back around the roundabout again!! CNUT Middle Finger Mad Middle Finger

Also twice in two weeks I have been inches from being shafted by a 205, and a Volvo!! I reckon that it is about time i rode with the full beams on and pressing my brakes(So the lights come on), whilst indication i will be waving my arms!! Mr. Green Mr. Green

When filtering I now use my HIGH beam headlight. I don't really don't give a t0ss if its legal or not.

On high beam its at the right hight to nicely reflect off the side mirrors into the driver's face. I just want to make absolutely sure there is totally no excuse for not seeing me so I feel justified in whatever I choose to do to the first arsehole to pull out on me and cause a collision.

I hate to have to say it but stopping distances and all that? Had you run in to the back of him it would be held as your fault for being too close.

I am not disputing the fact that he was driving like a tw@. Just that you have to watch them, you run into the back of someone = you pay.

You are meant to leave sufficent stopping distance to be able to stop without the need for "I then slammed my brakes on, greatest stoppy of my life nose fairing barely missed his car!", and as stinkwheel legally it would have been your fault for being too close and not being able to stop without going into the back of him.

The guy in the car was driving like a twat, also providing a good example of why the distance you leave between yourself and the car in front is important.

^^^^ its true, I agree he was driving like a twat but you should leave sufficient gap that you can brake safely Wink

What if the car in front has to do an emergency stop 'cos a kid runs out in front of him? you can't run up his rear bumper and blame him for stopping to quick Crying or Very sad

I never said i was in the right!! But he was also in the wrong!! I realise that any closer it could have been serious blah'dy blah'dy blah. But the point was more to how oblivious he was to what he was doing and what was going on around him!!

Like every 1 has/will said/say i was in the wrong for my stopping distance, which i was i wont dispute that!! But how often do you stay 5metres away in stationary traffic?

But you weren't in stationary traffic, you said you were going about 20mph, and whatever stopping distance you'd left wasn't enough.

Yes a kid isn't going to spring out of nowhere in the middle of a roundabout, the car in front could suddenly stop and do an emergency stop for whatever reason, but again you didn't say you were on a roundabout, just that you were approaching one.

No one is disputing the fact that the car driver was in the wrong, but legally I would say that if you had crashed into the back of them then it would be legally your fault for not leaving sufficent room, you need to leave sufficent room as there are morons like them on the roads.

Welcome to America, buddy. Razz

Honestly, I'm also one of those people that follows a bit too close. Never been so close that I've had to really grab at the brakes, though. While you folks may have Volvo drivers pulling out at random intervals, we've got mini-vans! I get cut off or blatantly pulled in-front of by a mini-van every other day or so. Sick

Ok Same sort of story

Last thursday morning going to a mortgage meeting with me and my g/f she's in the car i'm on my hornet. Morning rush hour traffic slow slow getting bored of doing 10 - 15mph. It was a wide road so i went up to the side of my g/f and said "that i would meet her in town" so i started filtering at about 15-20mph then about 4-5 cars ahead this stupid woman in a 206 decided to do a u turn without any indication when i saw it had no time to break and said to myself oh shit! Bang straight into the side of her luckily me and the bike bounced of her and somehow ended up on the side of the road. Luckily i was alright had a bit of a dead leg and my bollocks took a bit of a hit from the tank. Unfortunatly my g/f had to watch it from her car and she thought she'd lost me.

Now my hornet is quite knackered and luckily i now have a new bike thanks to my dad not liking finance so i'm paying him off monthly instead. I now have a new sv650s which i'll be posting soon as with my hornte.

similarly (and now understanding the shortfalls of 6v lighting) - I had three people pull out of consecutive sideroads into my path on the way home the other night - put it down to a dirty headlight reducing the regular 12v dazzle down to something less impressive.

erm , keep 'em clean Thumbs Up

I do this too, but it still amazes me how people still switch lanes, pull out on you and weave in your direction despite the full beams. Riding on congested roads is no fun at 6pm on a Winter's evening! Crying or Very sad

You are riding with your lights on full beam and are amazed at how many people start to drive erratically when they see you?

Ever thought that your high beam might actually be dazzling/blinding them?

Cheers,

Byrnie.

Probably. Almost definitely. Can't say for sure because I'm too pissed now to even check the relevant legislation.

But I can most certainly say, as a full licence holder for over 20 years, that some tit with his lights shining in your face (be it a bike rider or a little tit in a Nova with his spots on) is a major distraction.

Cheers,

Byrnie.

Surely they mean full-beams during the day though? I wouldn't do it at night but I always have full-beams on during the day.

They're just as dazzling during the day I've found, just you can see things other than just the lights, so it's probably not quite as dangerous.
