 |
|
Hi all,
Just a post to say that a few weeks back my girlfriend, Sarah, finally agreed to come pillion on the bike with me. Now, it would've been sooner but I only had the one helmet until recently.
Was a good day - not wet, but not bright sunshine either. So I gave her my textile jacket, gloves etc, and I wore my leathers. I felt safe in the knowledge that she had some protective gear on.
So, we set off - first to the petrol station to fill up, where upon she asks, "can we just head back now?". No
So I head off out of town (remember where I live - mostly twisty roads) to the next small village, about 3 miles of fairly straight road. Everything going ok, I thought, "she's enjoying this, I'll keep going". So we carry on over to Gleneagles Hotel, which is about 11 miles from home. I stop and do a U-turn (my first with a pillion - no problem!) and we start to head back.
I could feel her starting to relax on the way back - going through town she even lifted one hand to open her visor!!!
So I'm just posting this story to say how happy and proud of her I am, it was her first time ever on a motorbike and she was the best pillion I've taken. And I've too younger brothers who ride bikes (off-road) who are terrible pillions - always moving around!
Sarah was great, very neutral, and she didn't 'fight' with the bike mid-corner. Makes me feel good that come next summer we can go out for runs on the bike knowing that she is enjoying herself and not scared shitless!!!
I think it also let her see how easy it is for bikes to overtake and that the bike doesn't lean during the corner as much as she thought it does. We hit about 80-85 mph - the fastest I would ride with her on it.
Sorry for such a long post - but it made me happy that day and wanted to share it with all of you.
Have any of you had your other half on a bike for the first time? How did they get on?
Mark (and Sarah)
P.S does that make her my biker bitch now??? ____________________ Past: Honda NSR125R >> Kawasaki ER-5a2 >> Kawasaki ZZR-600e1 >> Suzuki GSXR-750Y >> Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm

I took my girlfriend on the back of my old ZXR750 and it was the first time she'd gone on a bike. She seemed to go through three distinct stages:
"Oh, this is fun"
"Can't you go any faster?"
"I want to be in control!"
Needless to say she loved it, has now passed her test and rides an NC30 |

I had my wife on the back of the Gixxer once. I t was only for about 2 miles though, my spare helmet is was too big for her so I wouldn't feel too comfortable going any further without proper safety gear for her. It's the only time I've ever took a pillion and I can't say I even noticed her on the back, though she probably doesn't weigh more than 8 stone. ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

Had the girlfriend on the back, and her mum both of whom loved it. Trouble is that she eggs me on to keep going faster, hard to resist really . I ride consideratley with a pillion on though and they were on the GPZ500 which is a comfy bike to go on the back of.
I took her younger brother out on the back of the supermoto. He is a dyed-in-the-wool ped boi who is doing his car test tomorrow and has already bought a lowered, large exhaust, body-kit and alloy bedecked Nova. He is a cocky little shit (just go as fast as you can, I can take it, my ped does70mph etc. etc.) so I deliberatley set-out to rattle him in full-on red-mist riding like a tw@ mode. Mission accomplished, screaming to slow down within 1 mile ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Took my bird out after weeks of pestering. I went as slow as possible but she didnt like it at all. She was awful too, doing the whole leaning the other way around corners thing. I'd spent ages reassuring her before we went out and everything. Taught her how to sit on the bike and how to react when we slow down or speed up but I guess it was just too much for her. Really disappointed with it all round, lost my own personal confidence too and she started a major barney because she was so embarrassed.
bad experience all round, so have to say im WELL jealous of you guys especially if your missus has went the next step and took her licence!!
anyway congrats on all that and enjoy your riding whoevers on the back!

I'm such a crap pillion it's untrue. I just can't get into it, I'm too much of a control freak I think!
My mates girlfriend loves going pillion, she'll quite happily let him go round a roundabout with him having his knee on the deck.
Mucho Respect! |

My mate always said he preferred me as a pillion, as it was sooo much easier to wheelie with me on the back ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

Hmmm, don't know if I would be comfortable with a pillion on the back. Its not terribly powerful with just me on it and the pillion seat does'nt look very comfortable. Kinda slopes backward
Still if a bird offered I would'nt say no |

My seat is broad and flat - i can do other things with a girl on it as well as sitting - i.e. taking her for a RIDE Quite comfortable when i had my dad on the back (don't tell the rats) but negligable power - still better than a 50 mind. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

I've had my girl out with me on two rides, now. One short ride for some lunch with a couple biker pals of mine and another to treat her to dinner when I got my first paycheck from my current job.
She seems to like it well enough, even asking when she can go out again just a couple days after her last ride. It's also a plus being able to scare the sh*t out of her just by giving it a tiny bit of throttle.
I'm pretty sure that when I get my license she'll be holding the back end down at least 90% of the time. Couldn't be happier. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/californiarookie/04gsxr600/

In my experience the worst pillions are other bikers!
Mainly because we all ride slightly differently, so I would, for instance, tip into a corner sooner or later than the rider, which, believe me, is very unsettling.
As far as my better half goes, she passed her test about 4 weeks ago, after having been pillion with me for about a year, I decided that it was about time she learnt herself when I caught her trying to touch the floor with her hand when I was cranked right over round my favourite roads last summer!
She still loves being on the back of my 7, but loves riding on her own bike(s!) too. She would tell you that she rides for herself to improve, and gets on the back of mine for the excitement! ____________________ You will become my force of retribution.
