I was just wondering, would an f reg yamaha rxs 100 suffer from being fed cheap 2 stroke oil and wether i should be using decent stuff, i came to a conclusion that older 2 strokes will be more temperamental than a modern one when it comes to oil? and will it harm my bike by using cheap stuff?

Doubt it, something like an RGV 250 would want £10 a litre stuff.

I would just use castrol super TT or there is a place that does decent shell semi synth for £3.75 a litre, if you want the link I will dig it up.

I have found them to run noticeably better with some oils over others. Not necessarily according to price either, see what it likes. My old Russian bike used to like Husqvana semi-synth chainsaw oil which was cheap as chips (good job when you are running at 20:1)

I also used to find some significant difference between brands of fuel, there is no good reason why this should be so. My Jawa preferrs Esso over BP fuel.

I owned a Suzuki SB200 (similar to the old X5) a few years back
and used it for dispatch. Started off with normal 2-stroke from
the petrol garage but after getting advice from a friend I changed
to semi sythetic.

Semi costs a bit more but it lasts longer and less smoke, I was
given some silkolene Semi from a relative who races sidecars.
The performance was great.

Worth spending the extra.

However, as stinkwheel points out, try different oils and see
what you bike likes best. If you have problems, try changing
brands of fuel because again as pointed out, some bikes like
a particular brand of fuel.

Have fun. Thumbs Up
