You can take pillions when you do your bike test, it is ilegal on L plates.

Only when you've passed your A2 test mate, then you can also take those pillions on the motorway as well.

Unless you're a darn ped boi who carrys his chav mate/biatch on the back of his NRG on L's anyway, often with no helmet!

Yes, the restricted test is the A2 test, same privileges as a full unrestricted (Category A - DAS/Accelerated Access) test - motorways, pillions, burning of L plates - except only 33bhp for 2 years.

You can't ride a geared bike if you did your CBT on a scooter.

That's wrong mate, you can have anything up to a 125cc even if you did your test on a scooter/ 50cc. It used to be that you could only ride what you passed on when you did your CBT apparently, but i personally dont think that rule should have changed. I did my CBT last week and was absolutely shocking with gears, so they put me on a scooter. The fact that i can now legally ride something, like a geared 125, that i'm actually incapable of operating/ riding does seem quite stupid to me Shocked

When I did my CBT, I had to come back the following day as I hadn't quite got the knack of U-turns avec knackered clutch, and it was pelting down with rain (puddles several inches deep in places). I was put on a scooter as they'd just sold one of the 125 geared bikes and hadn't got a new one in yet, ie there weren't enough to go around. Had I been restricted to a scooter, I would have been severely off-pissed.

Having said that, were you wanting to ride gears and there was a restriction, then the CBT place would have to teach you to ride gears, so you wouldn't be on the road on a scooter at all.

You need to make sure you're insured to carry pillions as well. This typically doesn't cost anything extra but you have to let the insurance company know that you're planning to do it.
