I got it!

And it's great. Will post pics soon. First time over a ton on the way back...had to slow down for the missus to catch up in the car. Makes a lovely highpitch "rrrrrr" noise. I like lots. I want to ride it more! MORE MORE MORE!!!

Details: 1999, "Firecracker Red" aparently, 11.6K miles. Custom Road Legal can (Carbon Can Co.), new rear, couple of light scuffs where it looks like its falling off stand but nothing to worry about. Got to get crash bungs, no point risking it.

Ummm...where are my leathers. Later all!

Cool. R&G Bungs are good, but bloody expensive (£95) for the ZX6R as you need a new waterbottle too (the rods go through it). They're also a bit of a bastard to fit, because of this apparently.

I don't see the point in getting cheap bungs though. If you mount them on the fairing, the fairing breaks if you crash, and even if you frame mount them you could bend the frame and write the bike off.

This is my old ZX6R with the bungs mounted:

My mates got a similar model, dont (and I repeat dont) drop it, let it break your legs first, do anything!! My mates was mint until my bird hit it with the car and knocked it over Embarassed cost £350 for a side fairing (painted stickered) and just a touch more for the top fairing. Other stuff was well expensive too like a mirror for 45 quid!

on the plus side I rode it and it was an absolute stonker, smooth as anything and the gear change was sublime! This isnt a 'mines faster than yours' hijack but I think the CBR and the zx6R are evenly matched. Theres nothing between the two of us when we are out, and the power delivery between the two was totally different. The kwak seemed to come into the zone very quickly but then die out whereas the CBR builds slow and carrys on through the range. Both fast, both a pleasure to ride! In fact if a ZX6R had come at the right price I would have had one myself! Good buy mate and enjoy it for all its worth!! Wink

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Welcome to the ZX club. Lets all now start a row about the fastest colour.

Did you know that the green paint on a ZX weighs 112 gm more than the silver.

Now who is going to be clever enough to work out what extra speed that gives the silver ZX based on power to weight ratio.

Dont laugh, I remember when I had my R6 and someone came up with this on R6 messagenet comparing red to blue. The thread went on for ages.

Silver may be lighter but EVERYONE knows that green is just faster. Its more areodynamic, you see. Or something.

Meh. Even if silver is lighter, it won't make any difference to the speed. It'll make it accelerate faster, that's all. Very Happy

Now then, seeing as green is a special slippy colour, it's bound to go faster as the drag coefficient must be lower. Wink

On the topic, apart from losing weight and wearing super slippery (maybe polyurethane coated?) leathers, what can you do to the paint to make it smoother? Lacquer?

Having said all that, if the bike has pants aerodynamics it won't help it any.

ah slippery yes, but do you know what they put in the paint to make it green and slippery???

Put it this way, I wouldnt worry too much about breaking hard and whacking your nuts against the tank. Even Kawasaki say they love green because its such a sterile colour. Hence the common saying that those who ride green aint got the balls to buy the faster silver bike..................

God, I should get a prize for load of shite...I can see this threads gonna be a good un

Er....yeah, i was...but...umm...this one came up. Could have gone and seen another bike, but it was in worse nick, more miles, and more expensive too. Took the sensible option for once!

And the 120 quick burst along the A1M (before slowing down to 50 to wait for the missus to catch up) was great!

Yeah, i've been doing that. I know the noise it makes while at 75-80 but only when i'm sitting upright, when bent over under the screen i hear bugger all bar the engine noise, but to be honest wasn't doing enough fast riding to get used to the noise yet. Key word there "yet".

its clear as day that red makes things faster. Red will always be the fastest colour...though at the moment, not with me behind the wheel. To be honest, still a little scared crapless of the bike. Still, suppose thats a good thing. It's a little more powerful than a 125

Red looks faster due to the doppler effect (light shifting) as it goes past.

But a kawasaki isn't a kawasaki unless its Green Laughing
