Pretty random thread this, but here goes...

I've noticed more and more that when I pass other bikers I'm always given a nod (well I think I am). So much so, that now when I see another I'll give him a nod, but I always feel stupid after doing it.

My question is... how many of you nod to fellow 2 wheelers, or have noticed it being done to you?

pleaseeee... put my imagination to rest Smile

Older born again bikers seem to ignore it but everyone else does it. The Scooter kids having even started giving me the nod on the way to work.....which I think is fair enough (live and let live as we're all on two wheels).

Nothing wrong with the nod, the longer you ride the more nonchalant it gets, a little forwards twitch, a little sideways twitch.

I rode past a group of four once who had obviously choreographed their nods, one in each direction, sad but funny a f*ck.

The only times I don't nod at another biker are:

Dangerous to do it, leant right over, etc.

Don't see them in time.

They have just really pissed me off doing something stupid.

It's that sort of feeling of brotherhood I suppose, us verses the rest of the world. The feeling that you belong to a select group and that you understand why someone chooses to ride or I could just be talking bollocks! Wink

You get a lot more once you get rid of the L plates.

Nods get less frequent on sundays with all the sunday (older) bikers out.

Some of us (yeah i know it's a bit stupid) run a bike for fun and a scooter for boring round town stuff. I nod to all riders, scooter or not and mostly get ignored from the bikes.

I say nod to everyone because you just don't know what else they ride and after all some of them on scooters are the super-bike riders of the future.

Wait till you go to France, then they casually wave a hand at you, or their foot just off the footpeg. Course it's easier, you pass left to left and your clutch hand is usually free......

Cheers

It's all part of being a biker mate...just enjoy that sense of belonging!

Even stranger is the stick-out-the-leg-nod (used only for high-speed 'hellos'!)

After a wee while it'll just become second nature.

Enjoy the riding

So if i rode past any of you on my NSR with L plates, and nodded, would I get a nod back?

Just out of curiosity

Yes, I'm on an NSR with L plates Wink .
Sheffield seems to be a nice place for it, as 98% of all bikers i pass (coming the other way obviously Razz ) gimme a nod, even guys on things like 998's and R1's Thumbs Up . It just makes you feel part of the team, a good thing to be Smile.

I think at the end of the day you shouldn't pitch yourself higher than anyone else, because before you did your cbt the aforementioned ped-scum were higher than you.

As far as i care, someone nods at me, and they're not an idiot (even DNA's cos anyone who rides a DNA *wants* a real bike so at least their heart's in the right place Wink ), they get a nod back.

Everyone starts somewhere, but I see what you mean.
As for ste, his irrational hatred of "ped scum" is best left ignored for the time being, or it'll get you into bad habits...

They're still ped scum.

No. DNA people are either ped scum if they're on a 50cc, or a twat if they're on a 125 as they could have got a geared bike.

Everyone does. But not everyone has to be a twat like ped scum.

Irrational? I'm perfectly rational. I just don't like peds.

If you're on a ped, - no nod, if your on a bike with 'L's - some nods.

Wait till you get rid of those L's, you'll get a nod from most bikers Smile

Nod to a biker and generally they will nod back. As previously mentioned, too fast, banked over cornering hard, didn't see them, dickhead. Good reasons not to nod to someone and I would think there are a few more.
It's just a nice pleasantry to let you know that what you are doing is a minority.

On this thread, tho, if a bike was on the side of the road, obviously something wasn't right, and the rider was looking at it confused, would you assist them.

Me, yes. And I have done so in the past. And I would do it again.

Yeah I usually stop in the car if I see someone stuck. I did it the other night and frightened the shit out of the guy that was under the bonnet because he hadn't seen me stop. Laughing
