On going problem.

I thought it was the reg/rec since the problems pointed to it. Replaced it but still the same.

The problems:
1. Revs up to 5k are fine in every gear but it starts spluttering at 5k and if pushed beyond has very little power and very disturbing howling.
2. Dials, indicators and horn fuse blows in seconds of replacing.

The problems are definately related and I think the 5k prob isn't there in the brief seconds when the fuse hasn't blown.

Not sure if it's related but this all started happening when I put a motrax kph convertor and givi fly screen on. Also took the headlamp loom out to sort indicator connections.
Would the fuse for the dash blowing affect the revs?

I am at a loss to what the problem is so any help is very much appreciated.

Hi

Best guess is that you have trapped a wire when you had the headlight unit apart. That is where I would start looking.

The kill switch and ignition on / off switch work by shorting the coil out to earth on many bikes. I have had problems once with the ignition switch breaking down at around 5000rpm, and it would run fine up to that point, but then just felt like you pulled the choke on. Presume that as the voltage rose up with the revs that it managed to jump a small gap.

All the best

Keith

If this is a grey import Honda, the misfire problem could well be that the speed sensing circuit/wire has become displaced. (The one that kills 2 cylinders when you hit 112mph).

If it has been displaced, the symptons are the bike will run fine until 5,000rpm then misfire chronically after that. Some sort of crude anti-tampering idea.

Yeah its a CB-1 so a Honda import. How would I go about sorting it out? I was thinking the mph-kph convertor could be confusing the gadget.

Just wrap up the thread.
Replaced the indicators because they where minging and corroded and the bikes running fine now. Strange how they affected the engine so much though.

My cb-1 done the exact same thing when the indicators stated blowing fuses. i found that when the fuse for the instrument lights parking lights etc blew it did this as they all run through the same fuse.

i think its because when you reach about 5k all power is cut from one of the coils so the bike is only running on 2 pots. its just a fail safe of some kind i think.
