God where do I start, I live in a fairly decent area of Newcastle, the neighbours are all friendly (most of them have stopped at some point or another to ask me about my bike and have a chat, none of them have ever complained about the noise or me working on it in the street, some have even helped me on occasion), it's generally quiet and we have little trouble, until the last few weeks that is...
I have to keep my bike out on the street as I don't have a drive or a garage (rented accommodation) so I have it alarmed and chained. Recently a group of kids have been messing about and setting the alarm off at all hours of the morning and then running off.
Anyway last night, I really can't explain why but I forgot to chain the bike, I heard the alarm going off at about quarter past ten, quickly checked out the window expecting to see the kids running off again only to see the bike wasn't there I quickly put my trainers on and ran downstairs to catch them but couldn't see which way they'd gone, there's three ways they could go to get out of my street. I took a gamble and ran one way, fortunately I met a guy coming down that way and asked him if he'd seen some kids taking a bike that way, he said he hadn't so I thanked him and ran back towards my house.
I was starting to despair at this point when I heard the alarm going off again (it's VERY loud ) up the street the opposite way that I'd gone originally. They'd got quite a way away from me so I ran after them as fast as I could. As I was catching up to them I saw there were quite a few people looking out of their windows and front doors looking quite concerned. It was at around this point I noticed there were three kids (16-17 year olds) pushing the bike (I was still a ways back from them), I was probably being a wimp but as I'd just run about a mile flat out I didn't particularly feel like confronting them so I just shouted at them. Fortunately they dropped the bike and ran off. At this point I was pretty much heaving my guts up from exertion (I didn't realise I was so unfit...), when I reached the bike I couldn't pick it up on my own, thankfully one of the guy's looking out of his door had started running up the street to try and catch the kids, he helped me pick it up on his way back (he didn't catch them but got a fairly good look at them).
Total damage: Smashed RHS Mirror, bent RHS handlebar, bent rear brake lever, major scratches down the RHS and a crack in the lower fairing/belly pan. I think the forks might be twisted slightly as well as it felt weird at the front as I rode it back home.
Many many thanks to the guy who ran after the kids (I didn't get his name unfortunately) as he waited with the bike while I went back home to get my keys and helmet to ride the bike back home, he was waiting a good 20 minutes...
Phoned the police when I got home to report it and I was shocked when I had them round within 5 minutes to get a statement. two very decent coppers (both of whom were bikers ), one of them asked me why I didn't chain the bike to the lamppost that's just slightly down from my house, I told him I used to do that but I had a knock on my door one Sunday morning by a police officer telling me what I was doing was illegal and I would have my bike impounded if I did it again (bearing in mind that the bike was still on the road and was not causing an obstruction and neither was the chain), to which the copper who asked me looked astounded and these were his exact words... "What a wanker... he's obviously not a biker... I'm sorry mate you do get them...". I had to laugh at that, many kudo's to the officer for making me feel a bit better by bringing some levity to the situation
The police went off to get a statement from the guy who helped me and I just collapsed from exhaustion (I really need to start going to the gym...).
I don't hold out much hope of the little fuckers being caught to be honest I'm just glad I replaced the old alarm with the new one which is a lot louder (actually illegally loud ) or I wouldn't have caught them. I'm just so angry I can't put into words how I'm feeling, I'm angry at myself for forgetting to chain and disclock the bike and pissed off about the sodding parents who just let their kids roam the streets without taking any responsibility for them, letting them get up to whatever they want without a care in the world...
FUCKING CHAV SCUM I HATE THEM ALL
Their parents should have been neutered....
Sorry for the length off the post I just needed to let off some steam, and sorry if it doesn't make much sense I'm not the best writer in the world, especially when it comes to things that have happened to me. |

feel for you mate. Little bastards! At least you got your bike back in one peice rather than have it totally mashed to bits. Still doesnt make you feel any better though I bet. Bout time someone did something about this pointless chav crime! ought to start a vigilanty group and crack a few knees! Gets me so mad hearing things like this. Pointless.......utterly pointless.
Lets hope that they get given a good kick-in soon eh! ____________________ An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field |

The cosmetic damage to the fairing isn't a problem as I still have some paint from when I resprayed it and a plastic welder to sort out the crack, I can get a set of mirrors for £30, I've already straightened the rear brake lever. The only problem I have is the handlebar and possibly the forks no idea how much thats gonna cost me
If I'd have caught the little shits last night it would probably have been me who got my neck wrung... I was physically sick from having run so hard for so long.
MissFickle, unfortunately there's issues with CCTV and the laws regarding it and I'm in rented accomodation so I'm not allowed to drill holes and things in the walls, I've considered it believe me. The problems have only been happening for a few weeks it just escalated to the next level last night. I'll be watching out for the little fuckers for the next couple of nights though, I have a nice wooden baseball bat and a hockey stick with their names on them... |

That sounds like quite a nasty situation dude. They know where you live(obvously), and you have an even greater vulnerability than normal in that you park your motorbike out on the street.
If they try again(and common sense says they will), then i don't see what else you can do other than go out and beat the living crap out of them. On the other hand, this will create further problems due to revenge attacks, and possibly even with the police if you were to seriously hurt them(which is what you should do). Just one of those nasty dillemas - Just hope that nearly getting caught will make them leave you alone, and that you never see them again. Whilst teaching them a lesson for fucking with your bike would be enjoyable, imo living in peace without the fear of revenge would be more so. Unfortunately, i'd be very surprised if you've seen the last of them

Whilst you may not have meant this in total seriousness, it is actually valid suggestion. 'Punishment' such as this, for committing crime works on the basis that you don't actually have to cut many peoples' hands off. Once a few have had it done, people will think very seriously about even the most minor of thefts that they might carry out.
Seriously, the thought of spending the rest of your life with only one hand is not a nice one, and even stupid scallies can see that. You'd need it to happen a few times in each city throughout the country though, before people wake up and realise that it is a reallity, and that they will get their hand cut off if they carry on being thieving shites.
Okay, in all seriousness that's not going to happen, but it's an extreme(ish) example of the kind of harsh punishments needed if the culture of petty crime is to be stopped. The current method, where some 15yr old nicks a car, and is punished by getting a driving ban is just fucking stupid. People like this don't care about what they're "allowed" to do. The fact that they nick cars/bikes in the first place, proves that they have no respect for the law, no matter how many times it's repeated in front of them by a magistrate, before being let out onto the streets again. ____________________ Hard livin', hard luck. |

The John Travolta character in the film pulp fiction summed it up beautifully for me. He was talking about cars and how someone had put a scratch in his.
He said something like, " Yeh but if you could catch them doing it wouldnt it be great. In fact, it would be worth them doing it, just so as you could catch them"
Or something like that. Imagine the satifying crunch of pickaxe handle on kneecap - sigh ____________________ Live fast - die....erm...well...old !!! |

I know what you're saying I know I could get into serious trouble if I do beat the living crap out of them if they try it again, suffice to say I will not be forgetting to chain the bike up ever again...
I was being totally serious about the saudi justice system, I seriously believe if it was brought in over here petty vandalism and other forms of crime would pretty much vanish overnight. Unfortunately I can't see it happening in a country where we place more emphasis on not hurting the offenders feelings than on the victim.
Instigator: I had a cheetah alarm on the bike before, I was very impressed with it, ie it worked, the only reason I changed it was because the siren wasn't loud enough as I'm slightly deaf, I'm really glad I did now as I wouldn't have known which way the thieving scum had gone last night as I wouldn't have heard it the second time it went off. |

Ouch, bad luck dude.
At least you got it back and that guy got a decent look at them. It's unlikely but if the police know who they're looking for your chances improve especially if they're known for doing this stuff a lot. *fingers crossed*
And that saudi justice system sounds ace. |
