Hey there guys, I was pondering to myself at the thought of getting a custom exhaust silencer for my bike when it hit me. I actually no nothing about them!
Could anyone tell me if:
You need different exhausts for 2ts and 4ts?
Are all the fittings from the pipe to the can different on every bike? (In other words, am I going to have to find an end can made especially for my bike or will there be loads to choose from?)
By the way, if it matters it's a 4 stroke single 125. Thanks for any help everyone. ____________________ What's ya name? What av' ya taken? Chase the lasers, safe as f*ck! |

Aftermarket exhausts for 125's aren't all that common to find and it quite usual to find that if people do put on a different exhaust, then its not solely desinged for that bike.
Couple of things really, 1 being is that when you put on a diff exhaust, it may need to be rejetted or something like that, alter the fuel - air ratio as it can run too lean or rich when you replace the exhaust. If you're getting an exhaust for a 125 that is made for that specific bike, then the manufacturer of the exhaust might or might not say if the bike will require rejetting.
With aftermarket exhausts, you have to make sure that the exhaust manifold is of large enough diameter to fit the exhaust in question. If it isn't, then you would require an intermediate link between the two and chances are YOU'D have to make that yourself or get some trader to do it for you. You can sometimes see this with certain companies, they'll sell the exhaust WITH the link pipe if its made for the bike. Otherwise, you'd be looking at sawing off the old exhaust and putting the new one on.
One other thing is the exhaust hanger. With original exhausts, when you replace them, you know they're going to fit alright as the hanger will attach to your exhaust without any problems. However, with an exhaust desinged for a different bike, you may find the hanger in a different place and so that attaching the exhaust to the bike can be troublesome.
Best going for one for your bike. Expensive, yes, but just to be on the safe side.
And yes, two strokes use little thin exhausts and 4's large ones. For a reason of course, if the 2T used a big fat can, then I'm sure it'd affect the power and running of the bike but I don't know the technicalities of that. |
