Just wanted to know how many of you are 100% bikers, I don’t mean whether you love bikes more than the next person but is it just bikes for you and do you care if you had another form of transport.
Sorry if this has been asked before but I had to run the poll because I’m all confused.
I love biking and always have since I got on my first bike back in 1999, I’ve had a few bikes and have rode them all year round, I’m soon to be taking my full access so I have been asking a few people what they think.
I have spoken to the parents and they think I should get a car, almost everyone I speak to says get a car or get both!
I know a few riders in Cheltenham, they own cars, they are slightly older I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Bike only for me. I could get a car but I'd only use it when I needed to carry something large, which is once in a blue moon. Having said that, I drove a hire car recently and found it worryingly enjoyable. Sitting in a nice warm cage, with a comfy seat and a radio/CD player does have its advantages I'm forced to admit.

Always, always been a bike person, dont know what it is but I have absolutely no interest in cars at all. I will eventually get one when me and the missus have kids and that I guess, but at the moment I'd rather be on a bike any day of the week.

Cars are great. You can get lots of stuff in them, lots of people in them, they're warm, dry and have stereos. Thumbs Up

Bikes are great. They go like stink and can make everyone around you wonder why you're grinning inanely. Thumbs Up

I take the car when the point of the journey is to get where I'm going, and take the bike when the point of the journey is the journey itself.

Personally I only own a bike, and it's by far my main means of transport. However, there are times when I need to use my lady's car to shift stuff/people, so...

Since we only have one bike at the moment between the two of us, we share the bike and car on different days of the week.

We will be getting another bike and when we do, the car will probably only be used when the kids are needing taxi-ing around, however, the youngest is 8 and the oldest is 15, so, once we have more experience, full licenses and bigger bikes, it'll be bikes all round!!! Thumbs Up

I am 100% a biker, only have a bike, never driven a car, but personally I think someone with a car can still be a 100% biker. Biking is a way of life, buying a car doesn't change that Thumbs Up

I would also say though that some people who have a bike aren't 100% bikers... i.e. people who have a bike purely for commuting and nothing other than commuting...

Had a bike and a car, you can't just say that because someone owns or uses a car they're not a "biker". Cars are useful, you can fit lots of stuff in them, you can tow big things, you can fit lots of people in them, they have stereos, they have heating, they have a roof so when it rains you don't get wet and you're not expeosed to the weather.

I'd say to get both, I bought a cheap car for learning in (£200) although never actually got round to the insurance side of it but yes car insurance is expensive but IMO it is worth it.

I only have a bike and no car license. I get a lift when I don't think it's worth risking it on the bike.

Looks like I might start learning to drive in the summer now because of the sprog. A car will only be a "have to" form of transport for me though.

I find driving a car makes the bike all the more fun... if you're not using it every day for the slog to work and back, it becomes more 'special' when you do use it.

Plus a few weeks spent behind the wheel of a diesel will re-adjust your sense of accelleration, so when you go out on the bike it's all Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy again.

Hi

Like cars and bikes. Spend too much money on both of them.

However although we have quite a few cars only one of them is on the road at the moment. The MOTs ran out on both the cars I normally use and the weather has not been bad enough to convince me to go and do a few minor jobs (change a thermostat for the new one currently sat in a box in the garage, for example) and put them back on the road.

Cars can be fun. Hopefully we will get the fun car back from having the bodywork sorted out soon, although we might have difficulty fitting it in the garage.

All the best

Keith

On the flip side, your bike skills perhaps aren't as sharp as someone who's riding nearly everyday.

Personally I find that using the bike for the "slog" to work means that it isn't a slog anymore. I can zip past traffic jams and get past those annoying people that insist on doing 40 in a 60 without any problem. Thumbs Up The cagers seem to have much more difficulty. Oh, and I know I'm going to be able to park in the same time zone as my office when I get there. I can't say the same for some of my poor colleagues. Twisted Evil

I have both.

I use the car mostly on a night when I'm with the gf, and sometimes like today for work when I have to lug stuff about, also it does make getting on the bike and going for a jaunt that more enjoyable.

I first got a car so I could get more njoyment from bikes (getting mini/normal bikes to tracks etc.)

When I have a working road bike I'll still use the car for distance and space, but will take the bike for town work where I don't need to carry much and for fun.

Everyone's situation will be different of course, so having both will suit some.

Myself, yes a bike is my only transport.

As I live in the shit hole that is the south-east, the traffic around here is getting pretty bad. Also, I work in the city where car parking is not possible.

I usually take the train though - does that make me a trainer? Razz

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I don’t like being made feel stupid because I get wet and cold sometimes.
I am going to go through with the test, I’m not going to have much money afterwards so there’s going to be no car for me.
Sorry for going for the sympathy vote, just feel a bit down today.

Thanks again Thumbs Up

100% biker... i rode my first speedway bike at the age of 8 and since then have always riden bikes. i moved up to a 500cc speedway bike a few years back and once i turned 16 i got myself a nice little 50cc road bike....now im onto a 125 and taking my full test... the only reason i would get a car would be to mess about with it, but my mate has one now which he is doing up so i can let my steam off on that.

My car is my "get me to work and back" and "pick up a load of shopping from Tesco" mode of transport.

My bike is my toy, and I don't ever intend on changing that. Sure, it would be nice not to have the expense of a car but that's not reality for me.

How on earth do people do weekly shops with just a bike??

Easy, do em online, and get it delivered. Razz

Also I myself am a 100% biker, I have no car and don't intend to get one soon, mainly as I just can't afford one and the fact when I get in a car I get travel sick! Confused

The only time I get in a car is when the bikes off the road during the bad weather or when it requires repair.
Plus I find If I don't ride the bike to work I am more tense and pissed off through the day, maybe because when I ride It kinda lets me unwind. Smile
