From the BBC news website:

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/shropshire/4038231.stm

"A man has been banned from driving for six months after his coach was stopped on a dual carriageway with a girl on the dashboard as he spoke on a mobile.

But Jack Webb's disqualification for the incident involving the 10-year-old near Shrewsbury in February has been suspended, pending an appeal.

Webb, from Egerton Street, Wrexham, was filmed with a phone in one hand and closing a window with the other."

Shocked Shocked Shocked - SPeechless.

Good! Someone being made an example of. His boss should also be prosecuted under the regulations for insisting he takes the call. His defence that it would cause 'extreme hardship' me thinks is rubbish as he runs a pub and I guess that makes more money for him then driving a coach for someone else.

I hope he loses his appeal and they double the fine and ban!

This morning I saw yet another lorry swing into the 3rd lane of the motorway causing cars to brake hard.

Why is it there has not been a study into career drivers all the while commuters are persecuted?

Yet if the driver was using a CB radio rather than a mobile phone that'd be alright (i.e. legal).
Ok, should be done for the lane change but if that didn't happen, as I said, legal with a CB.

...and the difference between holding/talking on a CB radio and mobile phone is???? Evil or Very Mad

Thats worrying, firstly because of him being so stupid to be driving whilst on his phone with a kid sat on his dash board, but its more worrying the way he goes on about how he was driving completly safely and was obeying the highway code, yes he was apart from the bit about not driving whilst using your phone. And the fact he asked the kid not to sit on the dash board makes it okay to continue driving anyway. Rolling Eyes

Stupid people behind the wheel of a big thing like a coach. Neutral

This story has sickened me but also pleased me because the
driver was caught, I hate people who use mobiles without a
hands free kit.

Personally the driver should be banned for life because he
was driving a coach. (plus the fact a girl was on the dash)

If his boss really needed to speak to the driver why not use
a hands free kit???

Many rich people in London spend thousands of pounds on a
car/SUV/Tank and they can't be bothered to shell out for a
hands free kit.

A bit like these bikers who spend thousands of pounds on a Ducati/ R1/ Fireblade and they can't be bothered to shell out for decent protective kit. Rolling Eyes

It's similar but there is one major difference, If someone riding an '04 R1 whislt wearing shorts and t-shirt has a crash then they're the one who is going to be injured. If someone in a expensive car has a crash then they are okay as their car has very good protection built in, so if the driver crashes they're not likely to get any serious injuries which is more than can be said for whatever or whoever they crash into.

There is absolutley no need whatsoever to talk on a mobile phone whilst driving. I do a job where I am required (by law) to provide a 24hour emergency service, outside normal working hours, this is achieved by diverting the office phones to my mobile.

If I receive a call when I am driving, I try to find a safe place to stop and answer it. If there is no safe place, they are diverted to my voice mail where they can leave a message and I get back to them as soon as I find somewhere to stop. Noone waits more than five minutes to get in touch with me and noone has ever complained about me not answering immediatley. I see no need for even a hands free set, there is noone who needs to get in touch with me THAT urgently, if there was a circumstance where it was that urgent (which in my oppinion would only be the sort of call taken by a 999 operator), the person concerned should not be driving about but instead be waiting next to the phone.
