All,

Took the bike out last Saturday, -1am air temperature, and as you can imagine a bit colder when you are going 60MPH+!

I was wearing my gear, helmet, leather gloves, etc.... but has anyone got any suggestions on how to keep my ickle bitty fingers warm? I had to suffer a McDonalds for a warm coffee!!! NOW That is bad!

I have my test in 4 weeks, and would like to feel at least comfortable prior to doing the test!

Doobs.

Yeah but there are ways to do it without having to buy the gear.. just obviously wont be as suited/effective.

Layers are the key to keeping your core temperature up, three long sleeve thin tops probably do alot more for you than one thick jumper under your jacket (heats air next to skin and traps it from rising off you and evaporated moisture will be warm and nearer your body... sounds nasty but it works along those lines i think). As someone was saying on other thread the first step is to keep your main body warm otherwise you'll feel heat sapped from your fingers alot quicker.

Other than that, if you got a thin pair of gloves (or even better, inner gloves) then you could try them under your actual gloves. Long as you can still move/control normally then it'll help alot more than you would think just having one more layer.

But all said an done, you can get all the gear in the world... but at -1 outside you simply going to get a bit chilly!

My bike stuff is toasty ! Too hot sometimes in fact...I can't wait for it to get colder Wink ha

I agree....layers IS the key.

I wear THICK winter gloves with thermal liners underneath them.

On my body I wear INSULATED WATERPROOF trousers , made by ixs, bought from J&S (they cost me £100)...

and a WATERPROOF INSULATED jacket, also made by ixs, (cost me £150).
Underneath the jacket I wear a tight long sleeved top, and a thin tight hooded jacket/top.
This traps all my heat in.

I also wear a Polar Buff around my neck. This helps greatly as I find if my neck, chin, face are warm...my whole self feels a lot more comfy Smile

I cannot concenrate at ALL if I am cold on the bike....so I make extra effort to ensure I am sweating ! Mr. Green

There are so many comedy posts I couldn't have followed this with, but I couldn't decide which one to use. Very Happy

But what can people suggest for my ickle bitty hands?

I have leather gloves....would it be good to use woolen gloves on top or below them?

Try wearing woolen gloves over your leather ones. The issue of gripping the bars might be a problem...

There are special inner gloves which are extra warm and also very thin. Silk seems to be a favourite material. As usual, HG have the answer.

I really sufferd from this last year, now i've not noticed it.

I think after a while you get hardened to it. That combined with the fact i now have a bike with a fairing Laughing

Those inner gloves can be bought in one size fits all for about £4 from most bike shops.
Its allways wise to buy summer gloves which are slightly too big, that way you can wear something underneather tham when winter comes.
