Well today I set off on a rather boring, bouncy and slow journey from Northolt to Croyden so I can take the comet to Bavanar's HQ to get fixed.

The damper in the shock was not working (later found out that all the oil inside it had leaked out) and the pillion seat lock needed sorting. I get the bike there and straight away the mechanic has got the bike up on the lift and is changing the shock, hows that for good service Wink. Just before he had finished putting on the new shock he looked at the engine and said "that looks a little dodgy." A tube that feeds air into the engine had cracked and wasn't fitted properly, so he had a closer look at that. Then he found out that the tubes that mix the air and fuel together were not put on properly and also the air filter wasn't fitted very well.

He then says that it'll take a little while longer and gets to work on the engine. All damaged components and tubes are replaced and anthing fitted wrong was redone perfectly Very Happy He then told me that the poorly fitted pipes and the crack in the other was causing my flatspot. When it was finished he rode it round the car park to make sure it was ok and then handed it back. I set off from the car park and it felt like I had be riding a 50cc bike for the pass 4 months and have just been given a 250cc bike Very Happy The bike accelerates really well, the engine sounds better, the engne starts better and it also idles better Very Happy.

After this what worrys me the most is I bought the bike from Three Cross Motorcycles in Ringwood. Why they haddn't noticed any of these fault before selling a new bike really annoys me and the fact that they charged me £70 for my first service (which also took them 1 week to do) and did nothing to it. All the faults had been there for quite a while as there was a lot of dirt built up around the areas which should have been covered. I'm glad I don't have to go back to them anymore.

Well I now have a new speedyer and working comet Very Happy me happy Very Happy

Excellent, nice one m8. I know bavanar treat their customers well

Glad to hear hyosung sorted it out for you, they're one of the companies I want to see do well over here. More manufacturers can't be a bad thing Smile

Oooh, that reminds me of CMC bikes.. The guy who I spoke to was trying to give me the impression that £1500 was far too little to spend on a second hand bike. (I suppose it would be for them who only had second hand up to 3 years old in store...Rolling Eyes)

A second hand 125 needn't cost any more than £5-600, thankfully whilst I made a silly decision about which bike I got, I didn't make a too stupid decision on spending £2k + on an almost new second hand 125.

Dealers play on people's lack of confidence though, newbies don't really understand that a 125 for £600 will be just as good and probably just as reliable as something new and sparkly costing £2-3000.

It's not in the dealers interest to tell them this of course, but there are an awful lot of beginners getting screwed over out there. The new bike and car market is only for those people who have too much money or too much pride.

I did this... twice. Thumbs Down I wish somebody had slappethed me upside the head before I wasted huge amounts of cash on new bikes. I could have had perfectly acceptable second hand bikes for much, much less. Now got a five year old GSX600F which I feel I paid about £400 too much for, you live and learn. I won't have the piss taken out of me again though. I probably won't ever buy a brand spanking new bike either. Not that I could afford it. Plus, the worry over damaging your split new, shiny pride and joy can negate some of the fun of riding it. Second handers for me! Thumbs Up

I would have preffered a secound hand bike to the brand new one, but all the ones in the area where to close to death and at a rather high price so I had no option Sad also breaking in a bit is a complete pain in the arse Sad my next bike will 100% be 2nd hand Very Happy

Bit of a bold statement there. I neither have too much money nor too much pride, I just wanted a new bike...

Hence my 2p. i.e. a statement of opinion.
