As well as riding my motorbike I cycle a lot as well, and so have a couple of those red flashing LEDs which loads of cyclists use as a back light. When cycling I tend to have one on the bike, then clip the other to the back of my bag for a bit of extra visibility. I know that cyclists are supposed to show a constant rear light, so a flashing LED is technically against the law, but I don't believe anybody has ever been prosecuted for this so far.
Are there any regulations which would prevent me from doing the same on my motorbike to increase my visibility? And if there are, am I realistically likely to get pulled for doing so?

There is nothing preventing you attaching the lights to yourself rather than the bike.

Does that hold for motorbikes though? I think there are regulations governing the height (max and min) and separation distance of lights for cars, so presumably there is something similar for motorbikes? So could an LED be in breach of this, or possibly some regulation about flashing lights on a vehicle?

There are regulations, but they only apply to lights attached to the bike so far as I know. The construction and use regs do not cover your own clothing.
