Maybe I'm being a little naive here, but I just read in 'Fast Bikes' that you can change the gear selector to race function on a CBR600 just by inverting the rod thingy. I havent been out to the bike to have a look yet to see if its poss on mine. (By this i mean 1 up and 5 down by the way Wink )

So my questions are

Has anyone ever tried it, either by adding rear-sets or doing the quick fix?

Whats it like?

Do you reckon it will work?

cheers guys Wink

also, on early rear sets you had to turn the gear lever backwards to be able to reach it with your toes.

I can see the benifits of it, my mate ollie had it on his race bike when he used to race r6 cup. Only reason I wouldn't do it to my bike is that when I go out on rideouts with mates we tend to swap bikes a lot and it would get really confusing for everyone and take quite a bit of getting used to.

Hi mate,
Done this a long time ago on the nc30 it takes 2 minutes to do by just undoing 1 bolt and changing the position of the rod where it's connected to the gearbox.

Main thing I noticed about using this race setup is you hit Neutral probably 10 fold more than you ever will which can really be annoying but it's extra handy when you need to change up a gear when leaned over into a corner.

It's down to personal choice but I may change back as on the roads it's not really needed.

cheers lads, I think I'll wait for a few summer blasts before I start tinkering anyway. Especially as its turned into silly season, Ive got enough to cope with, with weather/ice/greasy salt/diesel/cagers and all that stuff without hitting second instead of fourth and removing my testees on the tank!

My dad used to race bikes and he used to always bore us with this.
Helps changing in corners and stops you downshifting early when braking. Also if you were to hit a bump and your foot slipped on the selector you would accidently change up instead of down, which is a good thing at high speed.

Wotcha.

Yep - Both my Enfield and my Guzzi have right foot shifts, and they're both " 1 up - 3 down ". So that shoots the 'racing box' theory down then Mr. Green

What possible gain would there be, doing that to a road bike?
I very much doubt that peeps get it that low on the road to feel any benefit whatsoever. Confused
It wont make your gearchange any quicker either.

For road use it would pointless, plus you'd have to get used to it.

I was gonna say that... Doh!

Honestly its just to do with not having to have your foot under the lever when cranked over... it makes absolutely bog all difference to the speed of the gearghange. Smile

It should mean you can make a more 'positive' gear change as you should be able to put more pressure on it.
Also means your foot is naturaly in the position to shift up and means you can shift while hanging off more easily.

I have got a convertor for the r6 (which you can't just swap over). However after hearing stories off people forgetting and knocking it down when at the redlinecoming out of a corner, I haven't fitted it so far.
