Daydreaming Autos?

This is one really for people who have (or had) a scooter/moped, and now have a geared bike (or the other way around).


Do you find that, because you have less to think about (no gears/clutch etc) you concentrate more on the road (because you can spend more time looking) or less (because your brain isnt occupied)?



I know its very dangerous to be thinking of other things whilst on the road, but sometimes I cant help but think of where im going to go (I tend to jump on my moped and plan the trip en-route), or where the nearest petrol stations are, or whats for dinner tonight

Rarely ridden a scooter, but replied on the basis of sometimes driving an automatic car. Certainly find I land up paying less attention.

Having never ridden a scooter I cant really comment but I dont really think about changing gear anyway, once you've been riding a while and you know your bike your pretty much on auto-pilot gear wise in my opinion.

I just keep looking for the back brake under my foot when on a moped. Changing gear on the bike is pretty much reflexive to me anyway so I notice little difference.

I think after a while of riding a geared bike it becomes an instinct that you no longer have to concentrate on. You don't have to think about what gear you should be in for the upcoming corner your brain works it out subconciously so no I don't think riding a scooter makes you a more lazy rider personally.

My friend had a curtesy scooter from the dealership he works at until he can pick up the CBR600RR he's just purchased. I had a little nip up the road and back on it last week. It was the first time i'd ridden a scooter since I was 16 (3yrs+) and I nearly killed myself by trying to pull in the 'clutch' (which was infact the back brake!) and locked up the back wheel! Was quite funny at the time!
