Any tips?

I'm getting a new BT45 put on the rear next week and with this type of weather(varied) what are you supposed to look out for? I heard one of my dad's mates flipped his zx6r right over as he tried to accelerate far too har at a set of lights.

Is it a basic tip toe round every corner and set off slowly for 50/100 miles?

Not so much tip toe, more just be sensible - feed the power in gently for 100 miles of so. But remember, if you do 10 miles on the motorway the tyre won't be 'broken in' - you need to take it through some bends/corners so you scrub the tyre out to the edge(ish).

Best tip is to just take it easy, no trying to race from the lights or cranking the bike over like a GP racer.

Smooth is the key, and BT45's scrub in pretty quickly anyway.
I had a rear BT45 fitted in septemember and I had it scrubbed in 4 hours and a 100 miles later.

Just be sensible, don't try to accelerate as fast as you can off the first set of lights, take it careful and you don't need to tip toe everywhere just build up how much you push them so you have a good idea of where the limits are.

It's not as bad as everyone makes out.. I rode off with 2 new sport tyres on the R6 in pouring rain and went for a rideout, it was fine... Just go easy obviously but it's not THAT much different I didn't think.

As others have said, just be smooth, plan ahead for braking, cornering etc (like you should all the time Rolling Eyes ).

Alternatively, 10 minute quick fix.......

......... tiptoe home, bike on stand, angle grinder with a buffing disc till the shine goes.

Then go out and ride as you want. Very Happy Thumbs Up

Ride like a lunatic with a pillion who doesn't know it's a new tyre... Rolling Eyes I suppose he had ridden a few miles on it before then, but anyway, the tyre was well and truly scrubbed in with no chicken strips whatsoever having been doing 120 with me on the back. The lean angles that the experienced rider went to with an inexperienced pillion (me) onboard was somewhat scary.

I got a BT45 on my VFR in the summer. Came straight out of the tyre shop and to an industrial estate being played on.

G hopped on the bike and proceeded to do about 15 laps kneedown round the roundabout.

Neutral Cool
