 |
|
I am a 16yr old lad frm kent and I have been toying with the idea of getting a bike sooner as a pose to a car later.
I am in sixth form with one year after this and want some means of transport to get to college when I have finished at school.
I will be at college for 3years. So...
Do I get saving for an Aprilia RS125 or wait abit and get a car?
I have thought it over again and again, but I still dont know.
Theres so many dilemnas.
There are so many major pros and cons, including weather, safety, cost, fun and the fact that in a car u can pile all ur mates in and go out lol.
Saying that my bro dave n 2 mates rob n han r all toying with the idea of Aprilia RS125s aswel.
So Ive gone on for long enough borin you all to tears and endless sleep, but what willl it be, Car or bike?
and if a bike, are there any cheaper 125 bikes with the same style as the Aprilia RS and Honda NSR? ____________________ Cheers, Alex |

Sorry, couldn't help but have a slight giggle at you asking that question on a forum like this. The answer is obvious, get a bike.
I'm not really up on my 2t 125s, but as far as sports 2 stroke (2t) 125s go, the RS125, NSR125 and Cagiva Mito are it. The Cagiva is most expensive as far as I know, and the NSR is the cheapest of them all.
For a smaller 4 stroke version of those (4t) there is the CBR125. It is slower, tiny, but doesn't produce that 2t whine. It has also only been out for a year or so, so there will not be nearly as many good second hand deals about.
As far as the brand new vs. second hand debate goes, I'd recommend that you stick with second hand. Not only is it much cheaper, but it is already run in (so you don't have to pussy about not going above particular rpm and gear numbers for 500-1000 miles), and may already be cosmetically challenged, so you can get it for even less.
As it would be your first bike, you will drop it. Breaking plastic on an older cheaper bike will be less annoying than breaking them on a brand spanking new one. As a rule of thumb, don't spend more than about 1500 on a 125, as you will be moving up the licence tree within a year or two of having it, and will only regret it when depreciation comes along to bite you in the arse. Let some other fool take the first depreciation hit.
Oh, and I can guarantee, between going out with mates all crammed into a car and going out on a rideout, the rideout is guaranteed* to be more fun.

If you want a bike, two wheels, exposed to weather, cut through traffic, faster get a bike. if you want a car, 4 wheels, roof to keep you out the weather, gets stuck in traffic, can carry more people than a bike get a car. I'd get a bike as would lots of other people on here due to it being a bikers forum, ask on the Max Power web shite to get the opposite answer.
Oh yeah, bikes you can't fit phat ice. |

To be honest, if theres ANY deliberation in what you want, then forget the bike, leave that till later.
I have to say, if you were a possible biker, you'd want a bike, not a car, that wouldn't even enter your stream of thinking.
Don't buy a priller because your mates are and you want to look cool. From what I've read from your post, you want reliability for a long time .
I'm sure you've weighed the pros and cons for ages and if you're sure its a bike you want. Get a reliable four stroke..... |

ive noticed that car's can be alot more dangerous than bikes at this age in somer respects. Normally it's due to your mates though. Mine can be knobs and jump about when were in car's and reach across and grab the wheel
50mph through residential areas is considered ok by a girl driving a Saxo who has passed her pass plus!
So if your on a bike watch out for them, at least on a bike I will have full control,. If I had a car id be very worried. This does depend on your mates obviously and is just from my experiences.
Needless to say I dont get into cars (or go out much) with these people anymore. ____________________ Pictorgraphicalfantastical |

Two ways you can go here.
1, get a nice 125, have fun riding with all your mates etc, using it to get about and for college. if you decide when the weathers bad i.e. winter that you dont like riding in the wet and cold and shitty weather, for socialising, or even to get to work etc, the sell it and buy a car. Dont buy your 125 brand new, but if its an RS125 or similar type bike, then look for a very clean low milage one, ideally less than 12months old or so.
2, buy a Car if you think that is the main way you want to get around, and that you think you will have more fun, better social life, and that you have a strong interest in cars. If your not a modified car nut, the what does it matter what sort of car you get?
If your commuting to work/College, it might depend on what the traffic is like, and if theres decent parking etc? If your travelling into London then buying a car would be a total waste of time.
If you really think a car is better for you, then go for it, and that way maybe if you only ever feel like you wish you had a bike when its nice and warm in the summer and light at night, then you could possibly get a cheap bike £500 or less for fun, and leave it in the garage over winter etc.
The Bike will always be more fun, but there are reasons why people also prefer to have a car. Or you could do what my mate did, and buy a cheap car for the winter, and have a decent bike. £300-400 buys you alot more car than it does bike! |

Bike all the way, if you want to enjoy being on the road.
Cars have their plus points too its really up to yourself but if i was you i'd get a RS if your after a 2 stroker or the nsr ain't bad either, mito's are a tad expensive though ____________________ ****NORTHERN IRELAND NEWSFLASH!!**** According to a recent survey, 94% of loyalists said the best sex they ever had was in the shower; the other 6% haven't been to jail yet.*** |

If you choose car, I'd advise to steer clear of Saxo's. I've had one for a couple of years now and I wish I'd chosen something else.
Also, as Saxo's are considered to be a "boy racer" car, the insurance will be very high for a 17 year old lad.
Given your situation, I'd say go for the bike. It'll be cheaper all round and will help give you excellent road sense....meaning if you do get a car in a couple of years or so you'll be a better driver. |

I expect ill get some nasty glares, but I would say go with a car.
Ive been riding my moped for 5 months now, and I can honestly say that I now have the experience to drive a geared car, but still a bit dodgy with regards to geared bikes.
Also, if its pouring with rain/snowing/hail etc you will be soaking wet by the time you ride to college.
Go wit ha car, be safe, warm and dry
