Hi People,
a bit of advice please. I have recently bought a GPZ for winter riding, and I am supprised to say, I love it, my only critisism is the front braking, (it is a single disc version). Just be for stopping say under 10 MPH the brake judders terribly, setting up vibration on the forks? it has the original brake pads as its only done 2.5K. Is this because the pads are rubbish and if so what would peoples recommended replacements be?

Cheers

Hi

Dunlopads seem to work OK in the past, but our old GPZ had major problems with standard EBC pads.

Given that it is juddering check the disk for being warped. I would also say to try and clean the disk up.

All the best

Keith

Why do you say that?

As I have just put a set of EBC FA129's into my GPZ. Confused

Anyway, back on topic it sounds like your front disc may be warped or buckled, put the bike on its centre stand and get someone to push down on the back of the bike and turn the front wheel whilst looking at the disc and it you see movement from side to side at any point on the disc then its warped.

Shouldn't be juddering so see above.

I have also had problems with alloy corrosion under the disc which sets it slightly off-kilter. Try taking the disc off and scrape all the powdery white muck off the wheel hub under where the disc bolts on. Smear with copper grease before refitting the disc.

I used EBC HH sintered pads which work well. Braided steel hoses make a big difference to the braking performance.

Because on that one using standard EBC pads (not the HH ones), standing on the brakes hard at 90mph with a pillion would result in them fading to nothing by the time you got down to 30mph. Also used to go through them in 3000 miles.

All the best
