I have yet another problem with the gsxr400... I just bought a second new battery, 2nd cdi and 3rd rectifier. I was having problems with the battery getting charged. I thought it was sorted now. On the way home from college i tured the bike on fine then the lights and set off. Suddenly about 100meters away from college the bike stalls. I find out it is stalling because the lights are on and the battery is dead. Anyone know what is going on?? I used to be able to ride the bike when the battery with the lights on before, just had to bump it all the time.

I have had the bike 8 months now and not 1 day has it been runnig 100% Sad

Sounds very similar to my Gixer600 problem.

After ALOT of fucking about, it turned out to be my alternator (spelling?).

Got a new one fitted and it went fine.

That may be worth checking out....

I would of thought it's the alternator not charging the battery properly as jack says.

Exactly the same thing as my bike. cbr400 92

And I replaced the reg/rec 1/2 a year ago (I had same problems as u had). Brand new unit. so it worked fine 4 1/2 a year.

Yesterday, turned on (turned over a bit low) but still caught. 10 mins down the road, bike cut out. Battery had NOTHING.

Now I'm gonna test it, but if it is the alternator/stator thingie, I'm gonna be really annoyed.

I've got the same probs as I had 1/2 a year ago, unless the reg/rec has gone again...

Hopefully its just a dodgey battery, but something tells me it isn't.

When I experienced the exact problems you describe, I found out the problem was a bad voltage regulator. However, it could also be your stator (alternator), but this is less likely. Which is good because it is more expensive to fix. Take it to the local shop, and they should be able to tell you in a couple minutes after doing some testing with a voltmeter.

If it is the voltage regulator, buy a new one and put it in yourself. It is really easy. If the stator is bad, and your not a skilled or confident mechanic, have someone else fix it.

A voltage regulator cost me about $150.

BTW...You don't use a high amperage battery charger, or jump start your bike with a car do you? This could easily damage these components.
