LOL, I would take the train, if only because A. January could be thick with snow B. You'll be freezing your bollocks and could risk causing an accident (after you've passed out from hypothermia) & C. THe roads at the mo are cover in shit, mud and salt so the chances of an off are higher than in the summer.Sorry to be a misery guts!

Wear all your clothes, take a spare sparkplug and stop every so-often to let the poor wee thing cool down. Plan to take two days with a stopoff somewhere.

Which route you taking? Back roads to Luton then A6 all the way? I don't trust these route planners, they sometimes take you through the centre of every town on the route which can take twice as long. Sit down with a road atlas and plan the route yourself, treat the route planner as a guide only.

Long distances on small capcity motorcycles is a cool thing to do. Make sure you have breakdown assistance!

Word to the wise before others start. Try using the odd capital letter here and there. The karma-bot is very anally retentive when it comes to spelling and punctuation. Think of it as being like an english teacher sat with red pen poised Wink

Hi,

AA Route Planner

I used the AA route planner, where there is an option to avoid the motorways.

Total Distance: 175.8 miles
Total Time: 4 hr 8 min

and it looks to be the A1 and A57 most of the way.

Nick

It will take longer than this as he shall be on a ped rather than in a car, it will take about 5 hours.

If it's a 55mph moped it shouldn't be "so" bad, but I still think you're mad! I wouldn't take the bike anymore than 10 miles in this weather.

I find the 14 mile journey to Taunton boring on a moped, feck doing 156 miles!

Though I was thinking of going to London on the A30 all the way once, but my ped would pass out. Laughing

I seriously doubt it does as much as 70, maybe on the clock but not in real life.

That point aside, if you are going to flog the arse off a tuned up moped for that long, I would probably fit a grade cooler plug in it. Even so, consider the possibility that it could well blow up.

Yeah you will be redlining it the whole way! Itll seize up. You will need to take a 30 minute break from time to time for the scooters sake.

I done two hours flat out on my 14,000 mile ped once, it did breakdown, but nothing to do with the engine, the throttle cable snapped.

Take the train would be my suggestion, you'll take hours trying to go by ped and will freeze. Can I also draw your attention to the link in my sig, keyboard HOWTO as I'm sure you'll find it very helpful in your battle with your keyboard. Thumbs Up

Yeah,

I've recently made the choice of train over bike on a 120 mile journey, on a 125! Purely for the fact it'll be cold, I'll get lost and I'd acually like to get there with the bike in one piece!

Plus I need to come back the next day after next to no sleep!

I'd go for the train Thumbs Up Long journeys are fun... but leave it for the Summer!

60 miles at a go on my 125 is about the limit before I would need a break. It's coincidentally the longest distance I take home and the length of the longest rideouts I do too. Smile

Hmm, i've done 110 on my CG125, and had no problems, which was the other month on a freezing cold day. However, you'll be working a moped alot harder than I was riding my bike. Plus, if you're riding to get somewhere, rather than for fun, you'll stick to long straight roads and end up getting very bored.

The next day off college which is nice, I intend to visit the East Coast, which should be at least 150 there and back. However this is still quite a bit easier than what you have in mind. The train to Nottingham from London is about 30quid normally(unless special offer), so i'd say you'd be better off leaving the ped at home.
