Lo all, i was wondering if anyone has owned one, ridden one (rider or passenger) or heared anything about these, any common faults or anything?

How much would a decent example be going for realisticly?

I have ridden a TDM900 a few times and quite liked it. Its comfy and its got that twin feel. Not to fast but that's not what it's for.
I would have one.

I got on it from an R6 and thought it handed well. High bars and bendy roads were good and quite easy.

UBG says -

Early ones had traditionally clunky Yamaha gearbox, supposedly sorted after '93. Poor cold starting, often down to tired plugs; also flooding if left with fuel turned on. Flapping seat due to worn velcro. '96 version got TRX motor, bodywork, and another new gearbox..... Cracking all rounder in an era of over- specialisation.

Now you mention it, I have seen TRXs for sale at rediculously low prices for their age and condition. They don't seem to be in demand for some reason and are actually pretty good bikes. They have wierd timing which makes them feel, sound and behave like a v-twin sports bike.

A mate has one of those TDM850s and it goes well. He gets carried away and tries to off-road it occasionally (they are no off roader despite the looks). It is a heavy fecker to push out of a bog! Rolling Eyes

Fwarr, like that, twin exhausts allways good Cool

Don't think my girlfriend will appreciate the rideing position tho Very Happy

I think the "big trialie" is more of a european thing, allot of really good bikes but they aint race bikes and they aren't super motos, not touring bikes either, certainly not offroaders.. so why have one?

If i can spend £1500 on one i'll be happy Wink a while before i can though... just wondered about the kind of reliability issues or anything i should be warey of...

Sorry do drag this thread back to life...

I've found one, my bike is getting a bit tired, work to be done that i dont have the time or spare transport to do...

The bike is going to cost £1300 and with my trade in (i think he knocked some off because of the trade in) so £800, the salesman looked like he hadn't seen a coustomer in a while! (its a relatively new shop a bit out of the way) being winter i should have them by the sort and curleys, that and the tdm isn't a big seller anyway...

Its been dropped and has been resprayed, theres no damage on the covers or anything, allthough it is minus one mirror (left side) and bar ends oddly.. the rocker cover gasket looks new and he said its been "gone over" which i guess means tapet adjustments e.t.c.

The exhaust is a micron, probably a replacement not a race zorst, downpipes are a little furry but not too bad.

Haven't had chance to listen to the bike yet, a test ride will be needed and will be checking

For unusual knocks
Gear box (selecting ok and not jumping out of gear)
Fork seals
Rear suspension
Chain and sprocketts (oh dear, i really love my shaft drive)
Frame straightness
Steering head bearings
Tyres

Anything else i should be looking out for? Any haggleing tips?
