I think thats the fifth bike so far i seen stolen in the last two weeks or thereabouts on this board.

Just wander whether its a good idea for people to post here when a bikes been stolen, so if we ever see something suspicious around (a 'no history' bike in dealer etc) a quick one stop on this thread could help out a fellow biker?

So if you think its worth doing then something like -

Bike
Reg
Engine/Frame Numbers
Description
Location
Contact Details

I think that's a great idea Mr. Green . It's true bikes are getting stolen so fast, and if we can help the owners find them then we should Thumbs Up .

Yeah mate, 'tis a good idea. Maybe there should be one in each regional forum, so people can check for bikes stolen locally and keep a lookout.

Yarr i know the feeling.

Hence why i would suggest maybe making one thread with a 'post if you've had something stolen' layout?
If it was sticky at the top and people only posted the info (hopefully not 15 pages long! thats alot of stolen bikes!) then people more inclined to check.

This was more cause i thought it was a good idea and to see if anyone else did.

Don't mind at all Barker, I was just about to post the details on this thread as well Thumbs Up

Some other forums do have a seperate section for stolen bikes/a bit in the classifieds/whatever. To be honest I don't check them that often as I try to look for good news rather than bad.

Even when the Met. police set up a specific website for stolen bikes and funded it there was little interest, meaning that it may well close very shortly (or might even be dead by now).

What we need is for a change in the whole mindset of bikers to combat the trade in stolen bikes. Personally I do not accept that any bike (or bits) is legit, instead I make the seller do their best to prove that they are NOT stolen. I know that it is a sad attitude to take, but in this day and age Rolling Eyes

Right due to the positive response early off made an actual thread for the info.. not just discussion.

As Ant said people not going to want to sift through tons of chat posts etc to find the info they want.

So if the reports can all be put there... (amoungst other places) then its an easyer reference guide.

The only problem about large forums is they do attract the wrong kind of people.
In the same way police monitor boy-racer sites I'm sure scummy thieves read forum after forum looking for someones pride and joy to steal and burn. Localised ones could potentially be even worse.

Still, you can only do so much at the end of the day.

If you are a car/bike thief reading this, I hope you die a painful death soon.

Can't really see the point. When the theft is current and recent then the thread will be near the top, if there is just one growing thread then it won't get read as often or noticed much. Keep it the current way of seperate threads rather than building up one massive thread of all bikes which have been nicked as it will get noticed less.
