Need some info on this topic..... Carb icing problem....

Does anyone have heated carbs on their bike ?

Have you had any problems with heated carbs during the summer or winter ?

Did / does the bike run just as good in the winter as it did in the summer ?

Heated carbs, two types, electric or water heated via coolent ?

I need as much info on this as I can get, my GPX600R is acting like a real pig at night and first thing in the morning (early hours 5am - 8am). The carbs I have that are on the bike have the water cooled mod, but at the moment it's not all piped up to allow the heated coolent to warm up the fuel bowls.

I have also been toying with the idea of fitting a valve that can be turned (like a tap) so that during the summer the heated coolent does not flow through the carbs, does anyone have any thoughts on this idea (Kickstart) ?

Hi

In theory they should slightly improve running with warmer fuel all through the year. In practice I am not so sure.

The pipes have a filter which often gets blocked, allowing carb icing again.

Personally I would sort the heaters out to work again.

All the best

My GPZ500s's both had liquid heated carbs and the only problem I had was the filters getting blocked-up occasionally.

I seem to remember them recalling a load of the gpz/gpx range to retro-fit carb heaters so icing is definatley an issue.

If the bits are there for carb heating, one would assume they are meant to be used. The japs seldom put expensive extra bits on their bikes for no reason.

Connect 'em up is my advice.

They were not just carb heaters they fitted but complete sets of carbs with heater systems in them. Must have cost Kawasaki a fortune.

Picked up a spare set of GPZ500 carbs recently for peanuts. Barely used, but had sat in a box for a decade since being swapped out on the recall.

All the best

My ZX10 had heated carbs via the coolant, it had a little plastic filter underneath which used to block sometimes. When they blocked the carbs would ice, stop the bike for two mins at the side of the road and away she'd go.

humm forgot about my carb being heated. Only tend to notice when the hose comes off and it put hot water all up my leg Shocked

just take it off and blow through the carb holes and you will tell if the hoses are blocked due to the lack of water comming out of them.
