Hi I have a 97 bandit 6 and was wondering is there a way of testing my carb heaters are working because when I leave work at 6 am it rides ok for first few miles then it feels like it dont want to pull off or run Confused and I was wondering if the carb heaters aint working but when the engine has had a thrash it stops trying to cut out. So its fine when cold and fine when hot but in between it dont want to know I hope someone knows what I'm on about CHEERS and sorry for the long post

I think bandit 600 has electric heaters screwed in by the float bowl, I know little about this bike and with no wiring diagram I would take a random guess at checking to make sure we have voltage at the connectors for the heaters, if you have good volts there out with the heaters and bench test them, connect to a battery and check with fingers to see if they get warm, if no volts all you can do is trace the wires back and probe with a voltmeter to try and pin point the fault.

Just to bring this one to the top again as there seems to be a few problems with these heaters I am going to add something else to the mix, I think there maybe a sensor under the tank to switch the heaters on and off depending on ambient temperature, I think some sensors are not switching the heaters on in some cases because the sensor is partly reading the heat coming from the engine and not the ambient air. Just though I would complicate things a bit more.

I have a bandit manual here somewhere and as soon as or if I find it I will try and supply a bit more info if it helps any.

Hi

Just had a quick look in the Haynes manual and they do not show any carb heaters on the 600 Bandit. Looks like they might have been fitted later on in production.

The ones fitted to the Diversion works off a sensor for engine temperature, and I would expect the Bandit to be the same. The Divvy has a heater for one carb and the pipes linking the other float bowls to it (strange idea).

All the best

Keith

Hi.
I am having problems with the carb heaters on my bandit also:
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=36929.
I have a copy of the workshop manual, i will scan the page that show you how to test it when i get back from work.
If anyone know where i can get one of the carb heater pins (the bit coming out the bottom of the carb) can you let me know.
Thank you.
