I gots me a pair of hein gericke boots today, only cheapies, (£90).

Riding around today the number of nods received has gone up hugely!!.

I think I only had 2 nods unreturned out of about 20, do you think there's a link between boots and the perception of whether or not you're a chav on a 125?.

When you look at a person wearing biking boots they look more serious. I think it makes you look more serious over all.

Yes when I'm out riding and I see another bike, the first thing I do is look at their feet!! Laughing

Well it generally means you know how powerfull your bike is and that you respect it. It also shows that you care about your self plus they make you look more professional Wink .

If someone's properly kitted up, then they're perceived as taking biking seriously, not just dicking about (which can be fun and not just done by boy racers). I think there will be plenty of people riding dangerously with boots on too. People going flying about without protective kit on probably just damage the reputation of bikers in the eyes of other drivers too.

I find my Heine Gericke boots (only £70, it's not cheap however you look at it) so comfortable and perfect for the job (except the lack of waterproofness) that I couldn't imagine wearing anything else really anyway. Army boots work pretty well too, but I only wear those if it's tipping it down.

Expensive kit and machinery does tend to give people a superiority complex though.

When you crash wearing a decent pair of boots, you certainly won't regret having them or paying that much for them, with trainers I would have had broken feet by now. As ever, it's your health, your skin, your bones, your choice.

Funnily enough I am less likely to nod if I see trainers actually...

Trainers are the worst most unprotective thing you can wear on a bike... bar flip flops! Laughing

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Boots are often overlooked but I wouldnt even think about getting on the bike without my sidi's on (£70 off ebay). Think of the times the toe sliders touched down and just gracefully slid along compared to a size nine rubber soled pair of nikes! Plus they protect your ankles and shins as part of the deal. I dont wear work/army boots as Ive heard horror stories about steel toe caps ripping toes/feet off!!

I dont give a sh*t what they're wearing.

B*llocks to having an understanding of how powerful the bike is and how much you value your health.

Some people nip out to the shops in trainers, some do it because thats all they can afford. What the crap does it matter, they're on a bike ffs and they've got the right mind.

I may have my own ideas of how some people are dressed and what some people ride to the kind of person they are, but it won't stop me nodding.

Two wheels Thumbs Up

Army boots haven't neccesarily got toe-caps in, at least mine certainly don't. They're at least as sturdy, if not more so than my riding boots, but I've not much idea about how old they really are. The fact that they have 9 pairs of lace eyelets puts me off a bit compared to three velcro straps.

Army boots don't have steel toe-caps. If you stood on a mine, it is extra shrapnel.

They are quick to put on and off if you lace them up in a certain fashion. Try this:
