I did, this afternoon I was riding up Aldersgate street, stopped at the
traffic lights and waited. At the head of the queue was a motorcycle
cop, the lights were red all round and the pedestrian lights were
green. This young lady on her bicycle decided to cross the junction,
she did this in plain view of the cop, she cleared the junction and the
cop sprang into action.

With his siren and lights he pulled her over Thumbs Up

I have NEVER seen this before, pity it's probably the only time I will
see it happen.

I shout abuse at the cyclists who do this and if the lights go green, ride up past them and jam on the anchors slightly infront of them.

Not dangerously, just so they know that what they're doing ain't pleasing me. Pricks. Other than that fauly, cyclists rock!!! Very Happy

Nope, never seen it and can't say I'm expecting to any time soon. Have been fucking around out on my pushbike on road before doing wheelies to notice a police car just went past me the other way and they didn't do a thing.

Nothing illegal about using a mobile on a pushbike is there?

I have seen it several times in Edinburgh for jumping red lights. I am pretty sure they can endorse your licence for it too.

i got pulled a couple of months ago on my push bike Sad . it was my own fault tho, i was riding into town at about 10pm to go clubbing (cycle down, leave bike in town and get taxi home, or cycle home which is a whole different funny story) any way like i said i was cycling without lights.

They pulled me over and said:
'i nearly hit you there, do you know why?',
'u-mm no'
'you are riding without lights'
' i do, the batteries run out about 50 yards back up the road tho'
'well get off and push it'

So i got off and pushed the bike, then jumped back on it as they went out of view, about 5 mins later i saw a cop car in the distance so jumped off and it was the same bl*ody copper.
when he went out of sight i thought he's definitely not going to come back so i once again jumped back on the bike. about 900 yards down the road and around the corner he was sitting there waiting for me. luckily i saw him and jumped off.

But why do the police worry about small petty things like this when there are bigger things they should be dealing with?!?!!?

How does pushing it make the lights work or make you easier to see? Confused

Paul, because people who ride push bikes without lights are a danger, they can get killed quite easily and cause all sorts of problems... there was a push bike riding down the wrong side of the road over a bridge yesterday (filtering..) which I could barely see until I went past him! Imagine if I didn't see him?

That's why it's important that cyclists have lights.

I take it you wouldn't be complaining if he had hit you and knocked you off then? Confused

This is one reason why human police are better than speed cameras. They can deal with everything, rather than just measuring some arbitrary parameter.

It drives me up the wall when a cyclist appears from nowhere and starts coming up a one-way road towards you.

there was like only 2 cars that passed me on the whole journey, which was 20, 25 mins.

they did it on purpose, i saw them try and make it look like they could hit me even tho, i no, that they saw me.

I no now it was a little silly, but as i said i did have lights on but the batteries had gone flat during my journey.

(Just off topic, i really have to learn how to put the person im taking a quote froms name ate the top of it. how do you do that? Embarassed )

I think you answered your own question there.

I think it is a major issue and exactly the sort of policing we should have. What you were doing was dangerous, you could have been killed. Do you want someone who was driving along minding their own business having that on their concience?

Supposing someone had seen you at the last second, swerved to avoid you right into the path of another car and had a head-on? Not so minor now is it?

EDIT: I seem to have posted the wrong thing when I was saying how to make urls have a name.

[url=https://url]URL text[#url] is what it should have been. Embarassed Replace the # with /.

Yes you're less likely to see a cyclist without lights but as they're just going along the road if you've got your lights turned on then they should be seen. Yes they should be using lights and yes it is slightly more dangerous but I can't say I've been killed from using pushbike on roads without lights on.

Are you sure? Thinking A slightly obvious statement perhaps. Wink

As to using lights, my push bike was written off as a result of my eldest brother being hit on it as he didn't have lights, though he contibuted more by turning out of a junction onto a main road and the driver never saw anything. My brother just rolled up the car, dented the bonnet and rolled off again.

Then when he could have just walked the half mile home again, the driver called an ambulance and wouldn't let him leave without going to the hospital... Rolling Eyes

true BUT..... if a pushbike needs lights to ride at night, what about indicators or brake lights? I see it as if a pushbike doesn't need a license to be ridden then it shouldn't need to be ridden to such rules other than the common road rules like stop signs, red lights and such
