Well the old bros has lost all enjoyment and looking to upgrade.

Theres so many things to think about, (cc, insurance, looks, comfort).

The speed four is never talked about but whenever I do find a review on it, it raves about it.
It looks cool and all that but are there better alternatives about? Has anyone ridden one?

Cheers
Jan

I think it gets good reviews because it's basically a sports bike chassis with higher bars. While other similar bikes are made to a lower budget.

Therefore if you can get one for a similar price to one of the alternatives, it's probably a good buy, but otherwise you get what you pay for an' that.

If you want indivuality you could consider getting a sports bike with cosmetic damage and sticking some mx bars on as well as your choice of streetfighter 'customisations'. Probably quite a lot cheaper as well to end up with a 'better' bike.

I suspect some proper mx bars would make it feel a bit better (though I've never ridden one); I'm not a fan of the 'half way' bars a lot of naked bikes come with.

Sorry but slightly confused. Are you saying if I streetfighter a soft crash 600 it will be cheaper than buying the Triumph? Not accounting for an amazing deal.

Oh yeah and whats the point in having raised bars compared to clip ons?

Cheers
Jan

Yes, basically Smile.

Quote:
Enlarge 2002 Triumph Speed Four 599 cc,
Manual, Motorcycle, Petrol, 2,500 miles, Black. Black with Radiator Cowls fitted, Some marks on paintwork but good overall condition. £3,399.

Cheapest intact speed four on biketrader. (Though that does seem to be ok value for 2,500 miles, will depend on what 'marks on paintwork mean').
Still they don't seem to hold their value too well, so might not be /too/ bad a buy.

Should be able to get a newish 600 (2000+ model) from a bit under £2k for one without too much damamge.

Wohoo!

I just bought a crash damaged TT600 for 1.5k, the fixer-upper bits cost about £500 all in and I have (almost) built myself a speed 4!

Oh and the Speed 4 has /exactly/ the same clip ons as the TT600, and in actual fact the yokes are dropped over the forks to make the bike even /more/ wrist heavy. I'm not sure if there is any rear suspension shenanigans going on to compensate for this though.

Buy a mildly accident damaged TT600, do a bit of work and you'll be laughing! Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I think G is getting confused with my Speed Trip. That has the raised handlebars rather than the clip-ons!

Clip-ons make yer wrist sore, and upright bars help you see further down the road!

As far as the Speed four goes, I have tried one and I get one as a loan bike when the Trip goes in for a service. They are probably one of the best balanced bike I have ever ridden, it just rolls from side to side on the twisties, lovely, but its a little underpowered compared to some of the competition.. that's why I went for the Speed Triple in the end and I am glad I did. Don't really like 4 cyl engines anyway! Wink
