Well, my NSR was about 3000 miles overdue a rebuild, so I got it booked into CMC In Sheffield. On the way there, after riding through crap weather, the bike started misbehaving and misfiring, juddering about. I got onto the forecourt, and parked up after leaving them the keys.

I returned later, and they told me that all the engine bolts had siezed solid, so the bike was taking a lot longer than planned. So to pass my time, I was talking to my mate who's one of the staff, over coffee, and generally trying not to have a stress attack over the fact that my bike was in bits and things were not 100% to plan.

I was told that the misfiring was due to a melted spark plug! So, they fitted a new plug. Smile . I was also shown on the old piston, where the gases had been blowing right past the head of the piston. They gave me my old piston (because I said I'd like to keep it Smile ) and gave me a summary of the work...

Parts and labour came to £330 near as damn it. The work included the rebuild, decoking the barrel and the exhaust, decoking the powervalve and adjusting the cables, fitting new exhaust gaskets, bleeding the front brake and tightening the chain.

The mechanic also noted that I had a coolant leak, and fixed that as well.

Eventually, I was given the bike back, given general advice to keep it below 7k rpm for 100-150 miles (new piston only, same barrel).
The bike had originally been booked in for three hours, but due to siezed bolts etc, it had actually taken them 6. Regardless, the service manager honoured the quote and only charged me for three hours, adding on only £2 for the spark plug, which should have cost £6.

All in all, I'm very pleased with them, and have no problems recommending them Smile.

It feels a lot smoother, no longer rattles, and power seems to be stronger. I'm limited to 7000 revs so far, but what I've experienced is definitley an improvement.
The engine bogs down slightly at lower revs, but this is due to the piston being a "tight fit" apparently, and is only temporary.
Also, the engine now happily ticks over at 1,750rpm, rather than the 3,500 that it used to need to be kept at.

Probably helped the fact that your mate works there. You'd probably of got screwed if he hadn't, imagine what an extra 3 hours labour would of done to that quote!

Anyway, good to hear your bike's sorted, Thumbs Up.

Hi. I just found this forum and think it's excellent Very Happy

I work for CMC and it is really good to see genuine and positive comments. At CMC, we spend an awful lot of time in trying to better ourselves and our motto is literally 'exceeding your expectations' as it says on the back of all our fleeces Razz

In response to Reflex’s comment, I do appreciate that there are many companies that will try and rip off their customers, so can fully understand why it might be assumed. However, I know categorically that this is not the policy at CMC, and if any of you feel it is, please let us know and it will be dealt with. On 1st Jan 2005, CMC will have been in business for 30 years - that would not be possible if our customers were intentionally ripped off.

For what it’s worth, we’ve just won 2 MCN national awards “dealer of the year” and “best use of online opportunities” (website basically). If it wasn’t for our valued customers, and our approach to them, we couldn’t have done it. We are always looking for new ways to give our customers a better deal and welcome any feedback from you. We appreciate that no business could ever be perfect, but will always listen to feedback - good and bad - and act on it.

For the record, the reason I speak so highly of CMC is the fact that I have been a customer of theirs for many years, but only worked there for just over one. I am not a family member, nor am I a director, just a believer Smile Frankly, it is very refreshing to be involved in a family business where the true objectives lie with quality stock and customer care - not carefree ripping off as I have experienced from some dealers in the past.

Your comments are very valuable, and it's good to see that the majority of them are positive. If, however, you have ever felt that you haven't been treated well, please let us know!

You can contact us at anytime on the following URL:

https://www.cmcbikes.com/contact_us.htm

Cheers,

Bradders.
