I was on my way home from my girlfriends house tonight on my NSR, taking it easy, it was wet. Went to go round a corner doing about 35 going steady! in the middle of the road was a large pile of shit of some description. Anyway lost the bike ended up in a hedge! bike hit a wooden post and took out the headlight two indcaters and a large chunk of my nose fairing! I now have a large bruise on my shin and two very swollen bruised fingers for my troubles! im just happy that there wasnt more damage done to the bike and me for that matter! anyway god damn those farmers!

Take it easy out there everyone its so easy to come off at the moment

LOL, I know I shouldn't laugh. But that description sounds hilarious.

Hope it doesn't cost to much to repair.

Hi

Yes I came off on a load of crap on the road left by a farmer.

Basically told that I can try taking him to court but that I could well loose and get hit for his costs. The law changed to make it easier to claim, about 3 months after he had me off the bike.

All the best

Driving muddy tractors on the road and dropping shit everywhere! (what would it take to give them a quick pressure wash?)

Look for the farm with the biggest smell coming from it, this shows the freshest shit going around. Thumbs Up

Yep and its usually the one where the framer is driving about in his brand new land rover. They can afford to buy them but cant afford a clean up on the farm every now and again!

We all know they would rather be milking a cow than cleaning up the roads, it always seems to occur to me that the "Mud on Road" signs tend to be drawn out by their 5 year old daughter aswell.

Very true! there should be some kind of law against those bastards leaving the roads in the state they do and then having the cheek to write a crappy sign and expecting that to have made up for it

the problem is nobody can be bothered to report them, if every motorist bike or car reported every event then the authorities would land heavy on offenders if only to stop the fucking phone ringing constantly.

I have had a few close shaves with sand and cement near construction sites and house refurbishments. Fell off twice because of sand and cement in a back lane near me. Also nearly fell off on mud near a construction site where dump trucks had been. They don't give a sh*t about us bikers Evil or Very Mad

Mind you, it isn't easy for them. Speaking as someone who works on farms a lot, I don't know how the guy is supposed to drive his tractor out of a field at this time of year, especially when it is so wet, without getting mud on the road.

You also have to bear in mind that a herd of cows being kept indoors produces a hell of a lot of shit. It has to go somewhere and that somewhere is spread on fields. One of our big dairy farms employs a tractorman full time to spread slurry. This means he has to go in and out of fields maybe 50 times a day. Similarly, he has a herd of 200 dairy cattle which have to cross the road four times a day, every day to be milked.

There ARE some who take the complete piss and have their road looking like a dirt track but I see a certain amount of mud and shit on the road in a rural area as inevitable and pretty much unavoidable with the best will in the world. Most farmers take a pride in the appearance of their farm and the area around it and will do as much as practical to keep it tidy, they can't be expected to clean up every tiny bit of mud that drops off their tractor though.

You need to learn to anticipate the road conditions and ride accordingly.

There are a lot of people who do not understand the amount of work it takes to run a modern farm and make a living at it...As to the signs, well a lot of my clients can't read or write. Neutral

As I say, some farmers take the piss and should be taken to task about it, but most try their best. It is like people who phone the council to complain about the smell of a farmer spreading muck but still expect to be able to have milk on their cornflakes. Until the day that someone breeds a cow with no arsehole, you can't have one without the other.

Just my oppinion.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. If you have legal protection cover with your insurance, give 'em a ring. They will pursue it for you and it won't cost you anything.

I got about half way through it. Slowed down as there is often some mud there, saw how bad it was so slowed down even more. Basically to walking pace.

The mud was so slippery that the front wheel just locked up without me touching the brakes. Basically not enough grip to keep the front wheel turning. You can see the length of the skid mark in the pictures, so given how slow I was going you can see how slippery it was. It was difficult to walk on the mud. While I took the pictures I saw 2 cars hit the mud and then slide into the grass bank (no obvious damage).

The farmer who leaves this over the road chooses to lead his cattle 200 yards down the road rather than straight over it into another gate (despite the fact that both lead to the same field).

They have recently put up slippery road signs, but before that there had been a warning sign once in about 8 years

I am still not certain what to do. I am fully comp on that bike and could have just claimed, but my insurance company would just have paid out and ignored him. If I was organised I would have taken him to the small claims court, with the summons arriving tomorrow.

All the best

Keith
