Yes, he is gonna be another Born Again Biker and hopefully not another statistic...

He has seen a Hornet 600 in Branston Motorcycles in Yeovil, it is £3000 and has done 16,000, it is black and has a nose fairing.

This is good news for me as now he has decided to leave the car parked out the front and my ped and his bike can go in the garage, insurance premiums will come down a bit.

The gutting thing is insurance is only £200 TPFT for him. Sad

My dad did an insurance quote on my bike and can insure it fully comp for £364 with £400 excess Twisted Evil.

Just out of interest do insurance premiums drop when you hit 25 (like a car policy does)?

Wahey, nice one SS. Smile

My dad tried this when I got my 125, but I managed to not persuade him but not disuade him. Same when I got the 500, I saw that glint in his eye and he enquired about DAS prices.

Tbh, if he came off on a bike and got hurt, I know everyone in the family would blame me. Sad So I encourage him, not. Which is a shame, as I know he'd be up for some touring.

My dad has been thinking of touring with me, my sister and my Mum, with my sister on the back, if I pass my test. Seems a bit cheesy though, the family going out on a biking holiday lol

'Spose I'm lucky really as my dad's always been a biker so I've never had to convince him to let me have one or get him to ride. Big up your old man though mate! Thumbs Up

Oh my, well hes going to have to help you out with a new bike if he wants you to be able to keep up! Very Happy Wink

Thats great though, i sorta wish my dad would get a bike again, but then he would prbably borrow mine and who knows what he would do to it (if his car is anything to go by!) he ust have been rideing 30 odd years... it was going on his cb175 (oh yehhhh) that made me decide i neeeeeded a bike!

You could suggest he did some sort of refresher course, the hornet is not an r1 but still a handfull if you've not been rideing for a while, let alone 20 years!

At least it's a sensible (ish) bike. Cool . Wise choice.

There's nothing like a supersports 600+ to make you ride like a pratt.

Hope he had fun and safe rides. Thumbs Up Very Happy

Glad to hear your pop's getting back into the motorcycle scene, SS. My dad's just recently bought a customized Goldwing after taking at least a good fifteen years off from riding. Really glad to see the old guy get interested by something other than retirement again. Thumbs Up Very Happy

How does he ride?
I find riding with either of my parents is quite irritating and they really don't like it, they get nervous if I am following them and can't keep up if I take the lead which gets quite irritating really.

Sorry to be blunt Instigator, but this really is bollox.

Why do you assume he would come off? Particularly as it sounds like he would be a new biker rather than a BAB, & would have to go through all of today's fairly rigourous training to get his license?

Who would your family blame if YOU came off & got hurt? You? Or your dad for "letting" you ride in the first place.

Oh, and Josh, my partner has been riding bikes for over 30 years, I've been riding for 3, my son has had a 100cc scoot for 6 months. I ride with both of them regularly, sometimes all 3 of us go out together, sometimes we each go out on our own. If you are riding with another person or a group, you have to adjust your own riding to suit & adapt what they can do. This is one of the things that makes you a good rider! My partner rides a lot slower than usual when he's out with me, I tend to be the pacesetter because I'm less experienced and ride a smaller, less powerful bike. Sometimes however, when I'm following him, I find myself taking lines or actions that I might not have done on my own, thus improving my skills too. The same happens with me & my son, only this time it's me that adjusts my riding.

Biking is about freedom. If someone wants to do it, let them, even if it is your dad. You can't live someone elses life for them, or allow them to live yours.

/rant mode on behalf of older people, particularly parents, off!

Must add that my ER-5 insurance is only £248 tpft with my dad on the policy as a named rider!
