Well I have a new bike at last, a Yamaha TDR250 it uses a slightly modded TZR engine.
After only having it for a week I killed it, see pic.
I now know the problem was the wrong spark plug, it had a bp5es instead of a bp9es so it was running hot as hell it self..... also it was overfueling and thats why it ate its self.
The reasons I have found so far for the overfueling are,
1. the fuel tap vacuum was broke so it did not shut off - I fixed that.
2. the fuel tap vacuum bleed hole was blocked so the carbs could not release pressure - I fixed that.
3. the float valves were grubby and not seating - I fixed that.
4. the immulsion tubes were very grubby - I fixed that.
The carbs are clean as a nuns conscience and the bike runs pretty ok albeit not balanced. (just rebuilt, rebores etc).
The problem is when I start it tomorrow the crank cases will be full of fuel and it wont start on one cylinder. After I finally get it going it will throw all the excess fuel out the exhaust and run fine.
The float valve inlet needle is set correctly before you ask.
How the hell is the fuel getting past the float valve inlet needle? is there any other way?? |
