Following on from my earlier adventure with a Fiesta. The engineer finally came to look at the bike today and decided to write it off as a cat C. He valued it at £2000 which means it would cost me £700 to buy it back. Any ideas if there would be a profit out of breaking it up for spares?

/me now goes off in search of this week's Biketrader to find its replacement.

i'd guess you could probly sell it at a profit, as a Cat C can be out back on the road once it passes an MOT i believe

i made a substatial profit from my Cat B sold as a track day bike

If the damge isn't too bad you could get some second hand parts for it and fix it up a little yourself. £700 + £100 parts = sold for £1200 on ebay as a fixer upper/cosmetically damaged.

Dibbster, forgive my curiosity but how does the whole insurance thing work? How come it costs you 700 to buy back when its been valued at 2000? Does that mean they gave you two grand for it, then you give them 700 back and keep the damaged steed?

cheers

Wink

He'd get a payout of £1300 and get to keep the bike.

£700 seems excessive on a £2k payout to me. I paid £200 on a £6k payout to keep my written off Blade.

Exactly that. It is 35% of the value which seems alot to me Question I don't know if it depends what catergory write off it is. Mine is a cat C.

I must admit I'm not sure how the salvage option works even though I've been through it. It was with Egg who were worse than useless but it seems they did me a favour in the end.

I didn't even get to find out what category write off it was and I kept the log book. Shocked
