Primer or not?

I have been sanding down the fairings of my '92 NC29, with wet 'n' dry paper. It is all very smooth, and so is ready for the next stage.

Should I Primer before respraying it to Black? The original colour was black, and due to this I was unsure if It would need primering, or just immediately sprayed black?

So can anyone help?

Also when I have finished what should I get as a good quality Laquer?

Is your CBR all black, like mine? Question Have you got a pic of it?

If you can still see the original paint I wouldn't use primer. May be wrong, but when touching up the bike I never did. I only used primer when the imperfections are down to the original primer or down to the actual "plastic"

You generally only use lacquer on metallic paint, see how it goes. Mine looks pretty shiny, but the paint is definitely not metallic. Never needed lacquer.

Well, it is all black like yours, but i dont currently have any pics! This is due to the fact that I havent got a full set of fairings for it yet, but will have when some funds are sorted out for the skidmarx fairing! So its pretty much just the tail Unit, so I can afford to make mistakes and start again.

Claud when It is done I shall have to take A trip to Bournemouth. And I will be 18 then so we could have a couple of drinks at a students bar or something!

I shall await the prowess of 'Stinkwheel' to aid my problem, as he is the workshop King!

I would definatly use primer if you have sanded it down... I sanded down the spoiler thing on my old speedfight 2 and when I tried spraying it with car Paint from Halfords, The Spoiler just soaked the paint in like a sponge and didnt give a very good finish at all..

If you Prime it up (1 nice coat of primer)
Then use the finest sandpaper you have (sometime even a dam cloth) to go over the primer once its fully dry and remove any bumps, dry blobs etc...

Then depending on how nice a finish you want, Prime it again OR just begin spraying...

Def mate! I don't know how far away you are from Bournemouth, I'm there in term times, and in Herts (near London) at holiday times. Thumbs Up

Be good to ride with another Cbr4 Very Happy

Oh and black is easily the best colour for the Cbr4s! Cool

If the panels are down to the actual plastic: underneath all the paint/primer layers (a "plasticy" colour), use primer. Thumbs Up

defo use primer and i found that plastic primer works best and use more than 1 coat flatted down between coats

I am only about 1hr away from bournemouth, but will defo be hitting the towns there at least once a month with a mate! Another mate also goes to Bournemuth Uni Studyin business info studies!

I like near Salisbury, which aint too far from Herts i dont think anyway. Prob 1 hr. But I am planning on a few BCF meets next year, prob track days.

Only spot prime where (if) you have you have gone thru to the plastic otherwise it's not needed. If ya used anything finer than 600 grade the paint will probably fall off.. if ya used anything courser than 500 you'l get sand sctraches in the finish

There's no such thing as "good quality laquer", if it comes out of a rattle can it's crap (as in any paint from rattle cans). You can get a semi decent primer in rattle cans... IF you can find SEM brand.
