Hi all;

I am looking in to buying a ZXR400 and keeping my eye on biketrader mcn etc... came across an add from a dealer with the bike below

https://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y113/mr-scientist/zxrer.jpg

is that colour scheme a genuine one? I thought the blue tailed ZXR's also had some blue on the front/side fairings... just wondering if it suggests its had some new fairings on... result of an accident maybe?? its 2003 reg and 3K miles and for £2.4K, seems OKish price (quite cheap compared to what some people are asking though)...its listed as PX to clear, "Sold as is", does that mean they've got it as a PX but have not done the usual dealer checks, so theyre just selling it on ?

The tank is the only standard thing on that bike.

Side faiirngs are resprayed and the rear panals are off a 91-93ish zxr400.

Its not worth that much in that condition. Its 100% certainly been down the road.

*Edit* The front maybe standard but I can't tell from the side picture.

Here's a similar one so it would suggest it is a standard scheme (though i agree, m1ke is right, it has a mis matched rear on). The front may still have been painted though. I'd expect it to have a big Kawasaki sticker on the lower portion of each fairing.

Thats the 1991 zxr400 - note the rear panals are the same as the one in your pic.

The 2003 model should look like this https://motocykle.vbs.pl/motocykle/kawasaki/obr/zxr400.jpg (Note it has the same tank as yours)

The picture spanner monkey has posted is a respray too.

then doesnt it decrease the value of the bike (+ the cost of respray ) when I am trying to sell it again, as resprayed fairing = "ooo mustve dropped it..."

The paint scheme you don't like is the most recent and last one Kawasaki produced for the ZXR400. Generally the 1999 + models are in that scheme, you get the /very/ rare pearlescent black ones which were only produced 99-00 like the one you can see in my profile.

If you have a 2.4k budget i'd guess your looking at a newish one which means most in your budget are either going to be in that green colour scheme or resprays.

ye, I missed a black one the other day aswell... I was waiting to pass y test though, so I didnt bother going and looking at any bikes at all... kicking myself now, it was 10k miles, listed at £2.2K, an I have chosen a very wrong time to buy a bike anyway, with the arrival of spring an all...

Used to have the 03 400, the purple is decals, so rather than respraying why not just remove them? Always meant to myself but never got round to it Embarassed

Steer clear of the ZXR in that shop in the first picture it definately has the wrong panels and is most likely hiding a bad history!

When you get one you will be constantly grinning as they are well fun!

If only they had a fuel gauge on them they might tempt me to get another one!

I saw that exact one on bike trader myself. claimed to be registered in 03 but as mentioned the colours don't look right and missing the big Kawasaki decal lower down so a bit suspicious.
Only 3K miles though. Confused

I've also got what's described as the 'black/purple' one (98), basically looks black in most light but there's a bit of a purple/pink pimpesque metalic flake effect in the sun.

They do seem quite rare but I think the best colour considering age. the 90's shell suit design was never going to be cool for long!!

A plain green one would be nice.

3k miles and dodgy fairings sounds like a track bike to me. Speedo would be disconnected so it may have done a lot higher milage than it's showing and the fairings would probably have been replaced by race fairings whilst it was being used as a track bike.
