Sorry to be all questions no answers, but...

Ive just been out and had another shot at getting my rear wheel tightened up again.

I did what people suggest in my last thread: Loosened the axle nut, loosened the tensioners, wiggled the wheel till it was straight and then bit-by-bit tensioned up both chain tensioners.

But same as last time, the tensioner on the chain-side (left hand side) became stiff after a few turns as it tightened up and needed a good twist of the spanner to turn, whereas the one on the right hand side just remained slack and would turn with my fingers.

Is this normal? The tension indicator bar thing said the wheel was straight, and the tension was about right. Why is the right hand tension bolt so slack?

Logic is telling me that the chain-side tensioner gets tight because its "pulling" on the chain, whereas the other one is just moving the (loose) axle around, so if I tighten up the axle nut it will give resistant and go stiff?

Sounds perfectly normal to me. Once this happens, tighten up the axel just a little bit, so that the wheel can no longer be moved too easily. Now finish tightening up the chain-side nut, so that the chain is the correct tension, and tighten up the other side so that it's level. Remember to tighten the locknuts up against the adjuster nuts(using two spanners).

Ah okay, the more I thought about it the more I concluded it was normal, Ill tighten the whole lot up tomorow.

Shame I dont have a socket for my torque wrench big enough for the wheel nut mind! Will have to use an adjustable and just guess at 80nm.
