had my fm w10 sat on my handlebars{mistake i know} the other week
any way it fell off,not a great distance to the floor and to be fair it landed on the front bit just below where my bottom lip would be if i was wearing it.
does this mean my helmet is dead wood?no good now?
just wondered!
merry christmas

They say that you should replace it, but in reality i wouldnt bother.

Helmets are designed to withstand multiple large impacts (otherwise they wouldnt do much good if you hit your head twice during a spill.) If it landed face down where the padding is only foam than it should be every bit as good as before.

No problem really, normally gives us the excuse to buy a new one when we drop it.

A drop from the handlebars will not really damage it much, just takes a chip or three off the helmet.

Phewwwwwwwwwww!
Cheers people,I was getting worried, especially as i bought a nice visor for it etc.
It just made me think about all these posts about buying a second hand helmet,so much negativity about it so i thought i might have to fork out for a new one.

Most of the DOT safety standard lids have stickers on the back of the helmet.

The gold sticker to the left.

What you are meant to do if you have a waist height drop is tear one corner of this sticker off. Which pretty much means 4 *small* drops and it should be replaced.

Use your own judgement though, if you drop it onto concrete and then some c*av kicks it down the road a bit of common sense comes into play.

not that i want to play devils advocate, but......

on a track day i was shown a helmet by a shoei rep, it had been dropped once and then cut in half so you could see the cross section.

where the impact had been, all the foamy stuff inside had compressed and left an air gap between the foam and the outer shell.

cant remember all the ins and outs but it reduced the efffectiveness of the lid.

this could have all been just a way of getting us to buy new helmets, but.... my brain cells are more endangered than dodo's so i guess i wouldnt take the chance.

Shit, maybe I'd better shell out for a new lid seeing it's been dropped at least half a dozen times.
