Cable Q

Not really a problem but just a Q.

I know sod all about the parts of a bike so bear with me.

Ok-you're sitting on the bike and if you look down you can see to the left of the front wheel. There's a cable running from the handlebars to what appears to be the front brake. Brake cable i presume. Cool

Newho- whilst going along yesterday i noticed that the cable kept rubbing the front tyre and it was eating away at the cable coating. Is this normal cos any amount of adjusting the cable just results in it slipping back down again. Confused

Brake HOSE, not cable. Some bikes get this. Buy some "zip-ties" and re route the hose, or if your bike is new like i think it is, drop by the workshop and get them to fix it.

Well-i might get them to sort it-but im using it as a trade in against my new bike so i might point it out or let them figure it out themselves! Cool

It could well be the speedo cable. These are about the same thickness as a push-bike brake cable. Hoses are considerably thicker. Thumbs Up

Hi

If it is a brake hose that is rubbing on the tyre then consider replacing it immediatly.

Normally the speedo cable goes through a clip on the side of the mudguard to locate it.

Right- from the (helpful) pics it looks like it's the brake HOSE.

I'll investiagte further tomoz. Cool

If it is a hose - what bike is it? does it have a fluid reservoir on the front brake lever? - and it's showing any sign of abrasion then do not use the bike until it's been replaced.

As said, there should be a bracket to stand it off from the wheel and mudguard. It's possible that it's been bent or even removed by a previous owner.
