DNA 50 help!!

As a result of me having me first off yesterday due to me hitting a patch of ice, my DNA is running crap. I can't make it over 26mph and that's taking its time to reach!! Any ideas what could be wrong? I've been told that i just prob need a new drive belt, rollers and clutch springs but i don't have the "electric spanner" thingy to get into the engine since the bolts are so tight and i can't afford to take it to the garage. Are these the parts i need? will they fix it? what is the real name of the spanner thingy? Help!!!! Please!!!

I doubt very much a little slide would damage the way a moped runs...

I was hit by a car and my scooter was practically crushes and I rode it home reaching nearly 40...

It is probably just your concience thinking the moped is dammaged...

Which side of the bike did you go over on?

you dont need an electric spanner (huh?), you just need a socket set and a 3ft pole on the end to give you the leverage

it is probably one of two things:

either:

you fell on the side with the air box and knocked it out of place, blocking the air intake

or

drivebelt is knackered, this will give you slow acceleration but the engine will still reach top revs

when you are going 26mph what speed is the engine? if it is restricted then i think possibly about 8000 - 9000rpm, if derestricted then still using the rollers (not final gear) so about 6000 - 7500rpm

ok cheers guys... i'm going to try a socket set tomoz and see where that gets me, then i'm going to fit a new belt and i already have rollers that i might as well put in since the case is off. i took the filter off this morn and cleaned it and put it back, made no difference. What about if my spark plug has been cracked or knocked out of place, could that be a cause?

I hit the ground on the left... where the engine casing etc is... but my right wing mirror and bein knocked out of place (like hanging off) so i don't know how i managed that.

yeh getting a new spark plug may help

but if it dont then it will still make it run better

the plug you need i think is a BR9ES, but ask the guy in the shop when you go in or get it out and write down the number on the side

to be honest either the spark plug works or it doesnt, if theres summat up with the spark plug then:

difficult to start
misfires
doesnt go as fast

I heard today that there is a problem with "SOME" of the DNA's.
The problem is with the carb and its to do with one of the internal air ways.
It will need to be sorted by a bike shop and they will need to have your engine and chassi number to check if its one of the "affected" machines.
Dont know if any one else has heard this yet?
I was told by "Moby Dick's" in Derby.

yes i think there is because if you look hard enough you will find reports that they cut out after a few miles or so, been to garage and back etc and still not fixed

Funny you should say about the 'affected' ones. My friend has had his DNA from new since September and about an hour after it's first service it started doing 13mph. Then he took it to garage and they fixed it, but even then it was slow on acceleration and top speed was 26mph. Also it would cut out every now and again no matter what, it would just slowly die.
Don't quite know if this is exactly the same as your problem but it might help

This 'problem', will i sti'l have to pay for repairs or would i be able to claim it through Gilera if its a manufacture's fault? My bike is year old now though and the previous owner never had any problems.... hmmm.... Tommorrow i'm off work so the engine cover is coming off and i'm going to replace the belt, clutch springs, rollers and spark plug... Hopefully that'll sort it, but sods law will mean this won't be the end of it (i'm really unlucky with this kinda thing) and it'll cost me loads in garage fees in the near future

Just reading another post about engine re-builds... Could that be the fault with the DNA's, needing a re-build to soon into their life or something like that?

how many miles has it done?

after a year i doubt it would need a rebuild

i doubt gilera will do anything about it either unless you have a warranty from them on the bike,
its hard enough to find anyting from gilera that is in english anyway

mine did close to 8000 miles in a year without needing a rebuild

it could be possibly, but the exhaust is pretty solid, and is fixed on pretty well

After i came off, i kept hearing this hissing noise, which shit me up a bit. My friend told me it had always been there (it's the induction noise) but i only noticed it after coming off due to being paranoid. You will notice a lot of different things about your bike since youve come off, don't worry though. We've all been there.
