If it hasn't got the provisional car entitlement, then I'd imagine you'd have to send it back to get the provisional car entitlement added before you can drive a car. I believe all the provisional entitlements stay on the licence when you upgrade any one of them to full entitlement though.

Every license starts off with provisional car and you add extra categories to that so yes you can use that one for learning to drive with.

What if you get a provisional motorcycle when you're 16 though? Needless to say, you can't drive at 16..

Question

"If you are 16 and already have a provisional licence for an agricultural vehicle or a moped, this will give you provisional entitlement to drive a car when you are 17."

From the DVLA site.

It's worth the extra +/- £4 to have them check your ID at the post office. They call it the premium checking service or something. Means the DVLA don't get to lose your passport in the bin. I would imagine they process it quicker too because that part of the form is already complete when it arrives, even though it takes 5 seconds to do in the post office, I wouldn't be surprised if they took all day over it. You will fly through the CBT. One of the easiest things you will do in life. You have to drive like a real twat to fail. No need to feel scared. I did and once you get on the bike just relaxed and do what the instructor says. Once on the road, its all instincts really. Good luck. I'm sure you will pass. Nice bike to start off on too Thumbs Up

Never book your CBT before you get your licence back. Just a thought.
