Anywho, I got my theory test out of the way today, 34 out of 35 on the theory 56 out of 76 on hazard perception.

I think the XJ600 sitting in the garage with my name on it sped up my willingness to take my test.

Anyway, the question is, what kind of lessons do you think I need from here.

I'm planning to take the test on my own bike, so I was planning to take a couple of hour lessons with a local riding school. Just to prepare me and get rid of any bad habits I've picked up.

Over all I think I can ride to a test passing standard.

Any input? I've been riding for about 3 months.

3 months? Nor problemo. I'd recommend maybe 3 lessons before your test, one after the other(over 3 days) just to get you into the state of mind so that you know what is expected of you.

You#ve passed the theory so thats a good start and have a nice 600 waiting for you in the garage so that should be a good enough incentive for doing well Smile

Of course, once you've taken your first lesson, the instructor will have a good idea of how many you will need. If you find any problems with your riding you need assistance with, use the search function on this section, as you're bound to find something. If not, post up Very Happy

I'd book your lessons fairly close to your test though

Gazdaman,

I learnt with LINK in Chelmsford, they are very good, I can't recommend them highly enough, they will tell you exactly what is required of you for the test, they even told andrew to unfold his licence as the examiner there does not like to be handed them folded up......he can't fail you for it, but he MIGHT find something else to fail you on, that he otherwise may not have noticed *cough*

I did my CBT with link.

The instructor (bald headed one, I forget the name) went round the circle asking everyone what shape a stop sign was..

everyone said hexagon, a couple of circles, I said "octogon".

He said "that's right!, an octogan, just like a 50p piece".

Therefore, I'm going with FOCUS who are Chelmsford based aswell.
Link are good, that's a given, I just didn't find their teaching methods very patient with the slower riders.

Being a 6ft bald massive man, getting angry with 16 year old ped bois gets a bit intimidating...

There was one lad who had real trouble putting the bike on the centre stand, the bloke really intimidated him, I would not have liked to be him in that position.

Either way, they must have done their job well, as I'm still alive 3 months later.

Yup go for FOCUS, they are brilliant!

I did my CBT, lessons and test with them, just told them the times and dates i could do and they booked everything up for me then just let me know when to come.

They where very helpful and very patient with everyone. Gave you all the advice you could possibly need and more. I used there bike for the lessons but used mine to get there. I had trouble getting the centre stand up on my bike (its not the correct CG stand, a bodge job one off another bike) and they told me to bring the bike round the back and made me practice doing it, just so i could do it, even tho my test wasn't on that bike!

I've seen you ride Gaz, and i reckon you will be fine. I recommend a couple of hours of lessons before the test just to get you into shape!

Bring on the XJ!

That sounds like Nigel! Yes he puts people under a lot of pressure, but I felt that was what was needed to get through the test in a short time frame, he came up with the goods for me Thumbs Up We did a mock test before my test, and he slated me, threw in a few F's etc made me feel like I was riding like a pillock, so I pulled my socks up and passed the real test.

When I first got on an ER5 I hadn't done more than a mile or so, we came to a bend in the wet, and I bottled it, I froze solid, there wa no way that bike was going around that bend!, Nigel was behind me, he could see what ws happening and he talked me round that bend Exclamation I have absolutely no doubt I would have ended up in a heap on the verge, if Nigel hadn't been quick off the ball and spotted my problem, and said the right things to get me round, I was picking my landing spot but his words got me round Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Nigel is a top Geezer, and if I'd been through what he has, you wouldn't catch me near a bike Thumbs Up

There's no denying he's a top bloke.

I just didn't really like his whole attitude with some of the slower learners, I mean it didn't affect me, but if I was one of those people, I wouldn't be a happy bunny.

Went up and had a chat with the bloke from Focus today, seems like a nice bloke, Paul passed his test with them and he loves them to bits.
