I asked a garage how much they would charge me for a rebore + new pistons and rings. They said that my RG125 UN Wolf could not be rebored as it has a chrome bore. To do that they would charge me £140 + parts + labour (for either a rechrome or a resleave).

Is it just me or is that absolutely mental? The damn bike only cost me £700 to buy in the first place

That is about the right price.

Have a look at https://www.stanstephens.com/nico.htm

They are a respected two stroke tuning company, you can see there how much it is to get the bore replated. I have no idea about the RG125, but for my NSR it was £85 for a new Barrel with piston, and about £130 just to get the old one re-plated. So might be worth seeing what a complete new barrel costs (if you can still buy them).

Ah, this popped up in mechanics this month.

You can rebore a chromed cylinder, but you need to dechrome it first, which I believe is done with chemicals. If you try to rebore without removing the chrome you'll knackered the tool.

Hi

"Chromed" bores are not designed to be rebored. The makers would have you throw it away and buy a new one. They cannot be really bored as the whole assembly is not designed with that in mind, and iversize pistons are probably not availabe.

Around £100 is about right for the replate plus the cost of a piston. Try PJ Engineering in Wolverhampton.

All the best

Keith
