Hi there!

Does anyone know of a site like parkers.co.uk but for motorbikes?

Cheers

Matt

No, sorry, and to be honest, I dont think there is one out there that is as vast as that, if at all Crying or Very sad

Could be wrong though, you could always just find a website containing the CAP guide to bike prices, used and old and work with that....?

replying to my own post - my that is sad! Laughing

I could put this another more easier way... what nice bikes could I get for around £1200 pounds?

I'm after 400cc and upwards. Also, I don't want to be cramped at all. Sports tourers/Tourers/Sports considered...
Any Suggestions?

Edit: must have posted same time as you!

£1200?

400cc+

*pauses* lucie silvas is on the telly, phwoarrrr......

Well, you could get a commuter 500, I highly recommend the er500, a proper workhorse but excellent in all round capabilities. Same goes for the cb500 and the better gpz500. You might prefer one of them. They've just been discontinued for an update but there's plenty available and the motor has a stronger powerband than the er5.

You could try for an older zxr400....

Yamaha diversion 600? *gulp* Not so much sports but quick and can tour...

Am I on the right tracks here? Are you on a normal or restricted license

I can't really be bothered to sit and look through the Glass's Guide to find out all the bikes you can get for £1200, however if there's a bike you fancy and want me to check if you can get one for the price then I'd check for you.

Well.

For the er5,

I got mine, 2001 A4 model, 9800 miles on clock, just been serviced, some mods to it (bodywork) excellent condition at £1100 off ebay

Dodsi, another BCF member, got a newer model than mine with less mileage and arguably a nicer colour (maybe Wink) for only £1000. Which is a real steal. Both bikes were bought off ebay, if you check biketrader.co.uk you'd probably find they'd cost quite a bit more. Ebay saves you loads so long as you're careful. Thumbs Up

Gpz's tend to keep their value better and to be honest with you, I'm not too sure what kind of prices they'd go for.

Always worth taking a look over ebay and seeing what you could get one for though. You COULD get one for £1200 or less but I doubt it'd be in as good as condition as an er5.

I'm the proud owner of an older Yams XJ600 (pre diversion) I think they're excellent.

As instigator put it, they're not very sporty, the Divvy is more-so than the pre-divvy.

I picked up my XJ600 restricted, new exhaust system, 6 months t&t for £425, so imagine what you can get for £1200.

Here's a pic, the Red one is an XJ600 pre divvy, the dark green one is an XJ900 divvy, very similar, just has shaft drive.

SUZUKI RF900 1994 ON L PLATE IN RED

1996 SUZUKI RF 600

Both RF's look good, the 900 looking better "cosmetically".

Parts for both are usually on ebay quite frequently as once upon a time, I very nearly bough an RF400.

Not too sure about that early cbr, I don't know too much about them, but I hear the fjr's are extremely reliable and robust. Whether I'd pay that much for any of them is a diffferent thing, but I'd say the RF900 looks best, no idea what the reserve is though Sad

You haven't passed you test?

Are you serious even thinking about buying anything over 600cc?

You must be fucking nuts, right? The only bike on your list suitable for a beginner is the RF 600. Forget the rest of them.

The CBR is a possibility, but I wouldn't fancy my chances on one straight from passing my test.

Maybe you should consider a Bandit/Fazer/Hornet?

Plenty of power for a beginner and all handle better than you could ride it - will keep you happy for a year or so at least.

Also remember insurance - a naked bike is generally cheaper to insure than a sportsbike.

Hope this helps,

Mark

i've been called that, yes. Mr. Green Mr. Green

funny you should say that cos a mate of mine was warning me of the dangers about getting a more powerful bike as well, especially just after getting a full licence.

ok i'll take your advice (to be honest i didn't realise there would be that much of a difference) beginners ignorance i guess... i'll stick to 600cc and under me thinks...

Thumbs Up Yes i love the bandits and hornets and prefer them over sports looking bikes. Thumbs Up

Cheers for the advice.

Glad you are seeing a bit of sense!

To be honest, you probably would not get insured on anything over 600cc as a beginner. A Bandit/Hornet type bike will keep a big grin on your face for 2 years, by which point you should hopefully have a couple years NCB and then you can think about a 1 litre machine.

You'll also appreciate the power and become a better rider by starting on smaller bikes first.

I had my NSR125 for a year, and then got my ER-5 last May, so looking to upgrade to a sports 600cc in the spring this year. So that's a 2 year experience and NCB before I throw my leg over a ZX-6/CBR/R6 etc.

And yes, there is a significant difference between a 600cc and a 1000cc!!!

The Hornet definately is more than enough for a beginner, pumping out a whole 95BHP. Shocked

It is a detuned CBR600 engine is it not?
