Hi,
theres not much in here about keeping yours whats rightfully yours! (stoping thieving scum makeing away with your pride and joy)

Now with that in mind i park my bike in the hall (soon to be introduced laws say (in scotland anyway) you can protect your home and properity if someone enters un-invited at all costs! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up ) So im waiting paitently for the night they come a callin!!! For when its unprotected i bought a xena xcl 150 and i tell you this thing is one weighty, solid mother.

And on to the point what security have you got and how well do you think you bike is protected?

bahahhaahha@yams...that must make you paranoid.

Outside my flat

I leave my bike outside, one abus bridge like cable lock and an oxford 1m chain around the back wheel and a lampost.

Shove it in gear

Centre stand

Steering lock

Oxford cable lock around front wheel and frame

Halfords u-lock pointing downwards around front wheel

Oxford titan disc lock on front.

And a cover to top it off

Sits outside the windw of a dad of a well known glasgow family. Directly above is another who, if he spotted someone touching it, he warns them off. They don't get told again, let me tell you that.

With this in mind, I'm confident my bikes well safe Very Happy No body dare tread near it Twisted Evil Wink

At University or anywhere else

U lock around front or rear wheel

Disc lock on front

Bike also stores a 1m Oxford chain under its seat, but most of the time I don't bother using it. Always put steering lock on though. Even if it is easy to break.

Of course, now that I have found the oxford titan disc lock can be opened with a pen, its pretty useless. The oxford bodyguard cable lock is a circular lock mechanism as well so I presume that can be opened with a pen too. Both useless.

No wonder they are selling on ebay for less than a tenner each. Rolling Eyes

I'd start at a decent lock personally. They can easily just freeze the lock and smash it. Sad

Which is why I nearly won a ingersoll lock today. Its just a padlock, but these babies cost £123 exclusive of VAT. Very sturdy. Went for £30 i think, I forgot it was up Sad

At home my bike is covered - on a driveway, next to a wall and protected with an up to date Thatcham approved Datatool alarm system. At work it is against a wall (to protect people from slipping poles between the spokes in the wheel) and the alarm. I also keep it filthy dirty so it looks less worthy then it really is! Also everything is Datatagged.

I live in a (relatively) crime free area of London, surrounded by Embassy staff (the Ambassador of Malawi's family lives next door), as we ll as other Diplomats - we have regular armed police patrols up and down our road as well as foot patrols and Pandas. Having said that my wife's car was stolen last year (thankfully eventually recovered) from outside the house! Shocked

minhdinh - yeah its okay to do that, but only if it isnt causing any damage or getting in the way of public accesss. So, I'll only park my bike on a pavement where there is enough space for say 2 wheel chairs to get by, side by side.

Judge on a case by case basis, but its okay to do it Thumbs Up

At home disk lock in shed type thing (alarm in shed - least it will be when I wire it in Laughing )unless its in the front room. Laughing

When I'm out and about, its literally dumped where I want to park and then disk lock stuck on. Normally parked in the middle of town etc though ie where lots of people are walking by and not in a car park.

My bike(s) are garaged overnight, we have a ground anchor, but in my mums infinite wisdom the large lock is holding up the ladders!

We have 2 large locks on the garage door, but security is fairly low, I live in a fairly nice area, I've got a motion sensor and 110db alarm on its way off ebay which is going in the garage.

If I can find some cheap locks I'll get buying.

My bike is datatagged and completely insured, so it gets parked wherever and left, if it gonna get nicked it will be.

At home its secure round the back, chained up with 4 other bikes.

I had my first bike nicked after I'd owned it a short while, it broke me up, so now I don't become attached to my bike.

My bike is always in 1000's of bits, so it would be too much hassle for anyone to nick it, and if they did they wouldn't find half the bits...

I'm sure I read somewhere about House Insurance issues if you put your bike in the house.

Just a thought for anyone (and not saying you do Gaz !) who thinks this is a good reason for not having any security, I thought the same, top notch area, cost me a fortune in rent, my bike couldn't be seen from the road. My neighbour had a ZX6, two trailies, two mini motos, and reported it was a safe area (he was also my landlord) - didn't stop the tossers from loading my pride and joy into the back of van right outside my window at 11 o'clock at night, whilst I was sat in the room watching a film.

When I'm home it get's chained to the reasonably sturdy carport as seen in the photo. When I'm at work it gets the little orange U-lock on the rear brake disk (cheaper to repair than the fronts when someone tries to roll off with it) and is parked where I can grab a look at it periodically. Works for me and keeps the insurance company happy enough.

Chained, shackled, garaged. If I'm leaving it away from home, it's chained and shackled.

I went through a period of chaining my pride and joy to a lampost, with the bike on the pavement (parking spaces were very difficult to obtain, and the cambre of the road made it nigh on impossible to get the bike to sit nicely on the side stand)...

...until I got a parking ticket - well a warning ticket.

Not long after, the bike got stolen, I couldn't get the space next to the lampost, so I just put on the disclock and steering lock. When I got home, she'd gone.

Now, at home, she is chained, disc-locked, garaged and alarmed.
Away from home, she is chained parked outside somewhere I know she'll be watched (i.e. bike shops mainly - it helps if you go and chat to them Wink ), chained to something that will not move, disc lock on and in gear. I wish there was more I could do.

This thread got me thinking.

It was the case that the 3 bikes in the garage weren't actually locked at all, and the garage was bolted heavily, but there was a side door and you could just undo the locks...

Today I got another disklock for my XJ, my mums bike is now locked through the ground anchor, my 125 is disk locked.

I'm fixing the side door lock, and an alarm has been ordered.

It'd break my heart to see any one of those bikes gone.
