Hi.

Was working on the bikes earlier, gave them a good clean and done the basic maintenance. I pulled the plug out of the CG and I cant determine if its burning lean. I'd consult a Haynes manual if I had one.

A friend reckons its burning slightly on the lean side, but I cant tell.

Can any of you?

Any help is appreciated. Smile

Sparks < That may be helpful, at least best page I know of on the subject.
Looks OK to me though I'd say.

Thanks for that Bomberman. Thumbs Up Smile

Looking at some of those pictures, it appears to be OK but running slightly lean. Should I be worried about it running as it is? I mean, its only a CG, not like its a high powered 2 smoke like my RS. Laughing

[Edit] Just went back out, let the bike run for 10 minutes then done another plug chop. It appears to be running richer now, which is good. I'd much rather have a smokey bike than a seized one. Mr. Green

Looks nice and clean to me from your photo. If it has done quite a few miles on the plug and it looks like that, I would be well pleased.

Hi

Looks fine to me, but the colour of the plug when after idling is not going to tell you much. Also a weak mixture at idle is not going to be much of a problem.

All the best

Keith

Looks OK to me.

Put it back in, go ride it for 10-20 miles, then check it. but it doesn't look far out and you should only mess with it if its miles out.

Well the CG has just been on its maiden voyage. Took it about 5 mile then checked the plug. Looks pretty much the same.

I'm just a little concerned its on the lean side, the last thing I want is a seizure. Confused

Shame you cant just mix some oil in the petrol, 2 stroke style, to richen the mixture! Mr. Green

Its a 4 stroke, and although the rule that its not good for it to run lean still counts, it is a much more robust engine than your RS 2stroke.

......Basically as long as it is all std and not been messed about, by some dork, trying to get an extra 2 mph out of it, then it should be virtually bullet proof, so don't worry about it.

Thanks. Thats what I wanted to hear. Its all standard and as far as I can tell, its been used for nothing but commuting.

I will just keep an eye on the plug, make sure it doesnt run too lean. Its not like the bike will be going on long cruises anyway, only about 10 miles a day in the worst of weather, at speeds of no more than about 40mph.

Thanks to everyones contributions, all helpful. Thumbs Up Smile

Whereas, something 2 stroke in a high state of tune and being ridden hard, if its a bit lean will end in tears.

With a low tune 4 stroke, it would have to be a long way out to burn a valve or piston. Very Happy
