I used to like Dk, i thought they were friendly, helpful, and very willing.
I have recently learned of something which has appalled me.
a friend of my fathers, bought a brand new fireblade from them last year. after just 2 months i think it was, the engine blew up. It turns out, it was a dutch import, and in holland, apparently, they are supposed to be restricted. anyway, this blade was unrestricted, and the clowns at DK didnt realise the gearbox needed to be updated. this meant the gear box could not cope with the speed of the unrestricted engine, and it broke.
so, this person took the blade back to be repaired. He got it back, and everything was working as good as new. but the appaling part was that, a week later, he noticed the frame numbers were different. DK had gone and given him a new bike and simply swapped the number plates round.

Erm, that's a tad illegal. Suspect he could make a big fuss with them and some kind of decent compensation (for keeping quiet etc, unless it's too late).

well as it isnt me thers not alot i can do. My dad doesent know what he did about it. But i have sent the editor of MCN an email telling him about the incident, in the hope they could put accross to fellow bikers what DK are up to. I doubt they would do much though, as DK pay alot of money to advertise in the MCN. Worth a shot i suppose!

Oh, I'm quite sure MCN would be VERY interested in hearing what DK have got to say for themselves if your story is true. However, its the owner of the blade that should be taking it up with MCN etc. Can't NOT tell the world about that one!

Has anybody else had any problems with DK?? I think now is the time to get onto MCN and tell all!! a flood of emails/letters should get MCN investigating!

So how did they get round all the documentation etc??

Ash, e-mail them about the problem you had with your clutch!!

The only problem i had with them is that they wanted £50 for two indicators.

Laughing

Yet someone else who has had problems with them.

A bit of advice and I speak from experience, tell your dad to check his headlight, I'm 90% sure he will find that the headlight dips the wrong way, they import the bikes and don't change the headlight to a UK one unless you kick up a fuss about it. They at first tried to charge me £50 to do this so I had to see trading standards and send them a letter and they did it for free.

Hi

D&K are Aprilia dealers, so those will be official imports. The Hondas will be parallel imports and almost certainly will thus have non UK headlights.

If they have just put the numberplate on a new bike then they are going to be very seriously for the high jump. Suspect the DVLA and Police would take a very dim view of this, and as the registration document would not match up the bike is virtually worthless.

All the best

Keith

Agree with Kickstart, if the numbers dont match he's in real deep doo doo.
I just hope you got all your facts straight before you emailed MCN.

Assuming he's got his facts 100% right and they have definately just swapped his plate over with a different bike just go the police and DVLA and let them sort it.

Oh don't you just love DK 'there's no bushes in forks, why don't you just buy this pair of bent forks instead of changing the seals in your current forks' bikes!? Confused

Classy move on their part. Thumbs Up
A few letters to RiDE (who use them to supply a lot of test bikes) and MCN wouldn't go amiss Very Happy

It's a shame really that they can't seem to get the 'service' part of things right really, the place is great to check bikes out. I've gone many times to sit and stroke some beauties! Wink
But it seems to me, after you've made one purchase there, thats all you'll ever do! Confused

despite being the biggest bike showroom in the UK, they always seem to be overpriced. A lot of the bikes are a bit rough around the edges and DKs dont seem to tidy them up. They then sell them at premium prices.

I had a mate who bought a CBR from DKs and he said their aftersales service was very poor.

Hmmmm.

I will have to keep an eye on my new bike and them Confused

They told me that although it was a parallel import it was to the exact spec as a UK bike.

We shall see Confused

Having spoken to a few dealers in the north west they all know what DK Motorcycles are up to.
Many know about the headlight thing and other stuff too.

I myself nearly bought a bike from DK till I learned this and the fact the bike I was going to buy as overpriced, and I then found out they had no record of mileage for the bike as it had a speedo change to MPH and they have nothing to back the previous mileage of the bike up.

Not sure why it would be unsaleable, but people would want a reasonable discount for the extra possible hassle of having an import. Not a problem if you get the import cheap enough in the first place, although I know of someone who was looking for a 600 Monster and D&K wanted £300 more for an parallel than a Ducati dealer wanted for an official import.

All the best

At the moment i cant really comment from experience but i cant understand why parallel imports are much harder to sell? When i bought my parallel import i bought it from a dealer up here in the North East. The bike itself came from Germany and the only difference was the headlight direction and the kmh clocks. The parts are identical to a Brit bike. Ive since added a full fairing to the bike removing the difference between headlights but continue to use the kmh reading clocks with mph markers on them to tell me where the legal limits are.

I cant see where the problem is..unless you're talking about grey imports which are a different spec and require changes to pass EU Legislation

I like to know where you got your information that the gearbox in restricted models is weaker?????

IMO I cannot see Honda going to the trouble of making a weaker/sub standard gearbox when it would surely be cheaper to make 1 gearbox for across the board on all models.

If you mean the bike was down geared via the final drive chain and sprockets hence it overrevved and blew up maybe but the again I can't see Honda bothering with that either.

Are you sure the have not given him a new bike on purpose with a very simular registration?

Also I would not be so quick to complain about getting a new bike as opposed to a rebuilt bike when rebuilt bikes are very rarely as good as they are when they come out of the factory.

I would go back and mention it to them that you've noticed the frame numbers no longer correspond with the log book and calmly ask them why.
