Ive been riding a 125 for about 5 months now, Im already wanting more power, Used the bike everyday in all weather conditions and done a couple of 150 mile all round journeys, never had a off and feel fairly confident in my riding.
Anyway what I want to know is would 3 days of training be enough to get me through my test? Ive never rode anything bigger than a 125 cagiva mito.
Thanks for the advice in advance.

all the best John

I passed my test first time after 3 days of training, after only having a 4/5 weeks riding on a mates RS125. It is probably best to go to a training place and ask, I believe most of them do a free evaluation.

I'd ridden my 125 for just over a year, but that was four years before I took my DAS.

Three (full) days of CBT, and (very good) instruction and I passed first time.

After that, it's time on the bigger bike and getting to know and broaden your own limits.

If you think that you might struggle, just do the normal test and have a 33bhp bike for a couple of years instead.

It all depends on what sort of bike you think you'll have when you've passed too. R1, Fireblade?? Possibly not a brilliant idea straight out of school, but each to their own!

If you already have some road experience you should be ok, I'm sure you would be able to handle the bike. Thumbs Up

I dont see why he should stick to a 33bhp bike. It will make little or no difference to the test if he rides a 33 or 46bhp bike. I really struggle with the fact that so many people say "ooh no you dont want to get a 600 or a litre bike straight away, you will come unstuck" It depends on the individual, their skills and understanding of the power of larger capacity bikes. I had not ridden bike for 20 years, did a CBT, short DAS and moved swiftly on to 145 BHP. To date, I have not had any issues (crosses everything).

Anyway, my view would be to go back to the training school, have a go on the 500, see how you get on (I am sure you will be ok) and take the advice of the instructor.

My two penneth worth Smile

I agree. The whole point of the DAS course is to let you gain experience on a 500cc.

When I did my CBT I had never ridden a motorbike. But within 3 hours I was on the road. DAS will be the same I'm sure. Start off nervous, get confident, go on road, get terrified, re-build confidence. Enjoy next two days, pass test.

I personally found the 500 much easier to ride than the 125.

i rode 125 for just under 4 months and did a 2 day course
although for the restricted test, its exactly the same
apart from using a bigger faster heavier bike.

I had never been on a bike till my CBT, took the week course and passed.
Had a ZX6R waiting for me straight after my test, jumped on and never looked back. If you have riding ex it will be a scoot. I found the 500cc easier to ride than the 125's...
And getting a powerful bike isn't really a bad idea, I've been riding 6 months and done fine for someone who only sat on a M,Bike for the 1st time in may last year....
Just my 2p's worth!

Are you saying that's what I told him? My comment was if he thought he might struggle. It's entirely his decision, no one elses. I went straight to a 600, I don't see the problem either, but it's down to personal choice.

Nope, not a personal attack on you adam more a general comment. I think we are thinking along the same lines here. My point is, a 33 bhp bike will perform pretty much the same as a 46 bhp bike, same weight etc, and on the test you are limited by the speed limits that both bikes easily achieve. So get the full licence. I agree, the choice of bike is all down to personal choice. That can be made after you have got a Full licence. Best of both world's without a 2 year wait.
