As some of you may know, I have a 100cc Speedfight moped.

I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make it closer to a 125cc (in terms of performance). I know 25 extra CCs won't really do much, but I would at least like to think Iim riding the maximum I can on my provisional license.

Personally I'd be tempted to save the cash for a bigger bike in time.

Half-round bastard file to widen the bore, and a coke can cut into strips for bigger piston rings.

Yup, I'm sure I can make mine a 650cc using the aforementioned method. Probly have to strengthen the con rod though - maybe I could glue strips of wire coat hanger along the length. But then I'd have to re-gear for the extra power, so I think I'll swap the gearbox for the Sturmey Archer hub from an old Chopper.

You could strengthen the con rod by wrapping it in gaffa tape from top to bottom, then giving it a coat of hammerite. Also I hear that a used Heinz tomato soup can makes a perfect .25 oversize piston. Rolling Eyes

Stop it, your going to make me cry! Crying or Very sad

So I guess that means it will cost a bit of money to do anything to it?

I was considering getting a Gilera DNA 125cc, but its not just the cost of the bike, its the insurace (20y/o with 0 NCB).

I'm thinking you can't increase it unless you buy a completely new engine. Confused

Your right theres not allot of point moding your current engine, appart from the actual cost of doing it you'll need to tell your insureance company, who will laugh at you or charge an obcene ammount of money...

If your going to change bike get an nsr125 Thumbs Up much better than a dna, more reliable than an italian bike e.g. aprilla, will sell for more or less what you buy it for assumeing you dont break it in the meantime...

If you could buy a scooter based on it not tuning well, you would have made the right choice getting a speedfight 100.
The speedfight 50 LC's are faster.
The problem is the lack of liquid cooling, not good on two strokes.

A mate had one a couple of years ago and spent money on tuning parts, but to no avail, he spent £300 and took it from doing 58mph to doing 65mph, both figures achieved laid flat.
The only good thing about it was he learned his lesson and now rides around (making peoples ears bleed!) on a YZ400F.

Malossi make a 120cc kit for the speedfight 100cc air cooled engine.

Now the problem with these engines is they are basically a watercooled 50cc speedfight engine which are modified to have a 100cc air cooled head.

Thus meaning that the crank is not very strong/as strong as it should be on a 100cc motorcycle.

By adding a 120cc kit to the bike would require an uprated crank which are not in production for a speedfight 100 and then the malossi 120cc head.

Also it makes the bike very rattly and vibrates a lot and basically puts the engine into a self destruct mode as it will just shake itself to bits.

If you want to go faster save your money and buy a bigger bike.

Here are the links to show how much it would cost to modify your engine.
