RS125 Speedo problem - speedo drive?

Guys, my speedo stopped working the other day. I have taken the speedo cable off and if you turn one end the other rotates so I guess that is fine.

Prior to it stopping working there was a clicking noise coming from the front so I suspect the speedo drive. Can anyone please explain how this works and can it be repaired? I have looked through the workshop manual I have and could find no mention of it.

Hey.

Same thing happened to my RS a few days ago, also made a squeaky noise when the speedo died, but went after a short while. Took the cable off and twiddled it round and that was fine. Called Speedaway Motorcycles and ordered a replacement. Cost £39ish including vat and delivery, came within two days. Just fitted the drive today and it wasnt that hard. Simply take the wheel off, replace the drive and bolt it back together. Didnt take too long and I managed with a friend and we're both rather mechanically illiterate. Laughing

Worst part is parting with £40 for something so small. Sad

Hi

As above, but they are notorious for going on the RS125. Apparently there are people selling them on Ebay for reasonable amounts.
